to all those auto folks out there, anyone here experience vibration in D with the brakes applied? i find whenever i'm stationary too long in D, a vibration starts to develop from the engine and i have to shift it into N to relief the vibration.

you will find that the tranny needs a oil flush and should fix your problem, had the same prob a in the past...

what is your rpm whilst idling in D? Magnas like all cars have a few very serious transmission modes below 700rpm, usually around the 600rpm mark is the worst. You'll find that when you shift it into N, your rpm would have raised to about 750rpm, and so it is out of the frequency range of the modes.

The easist way to overcome this is to use the idle adjuster on the throttle body and just slightly (very slightly) increase the idle rpm.

If it still occurs, you may want to check your engine and transmission mounts, look for cracks of bad signs of wear.

Try adjusting the idle, but i think the rpm has a set range for when in gear and brakes which is around 650-700, i tried adjusting the idle to get it to idle higher in gear adjusting all the up to 1100 but once in gear would just goto around 650-670.

But as whitedevil said check ur mounts as this could be a simple remedy

i did a full fluid flush with mitsu about 10,000 kms ago. so that takes bad fluid out of the equation. i might have a go with what white devil said. thanks. btw, i also replaced the engine mounts under warranty in 2002. so i don't think the mounts have worn so fast have they?

Well we tried...

Thought about shifting it into Neutral anyway?

Saves fuel, and less wear on the brakes and transmission.

if u read ur manual, for long stops in traffic ur meant to shift to neutral not keep it in D

vibrations when in D i put down to the fact ur car is trying to move forward but u r braking, hence putting stress on trans and brakes and whatnot, i get same problem (my tranny needs a flush anyways) and itsj ust a small vibration then is releived in N

ive been told the TH (auto) is renowned for vibration in D - generally the engine mounts are the culprit but there doesnt seem to be a proper "fix"
some are really bad and it was sposed to be fixed first gen tj.

Used to have some minor vibration when stationery in D. Not major at all, but noticeable. Practically disappeared after the last service.
Had a Subaru Liberty do that too but a lot more noticeable and never managed to get rid of it.

vibration at idle in th/tj magnas is an engine mouont concern, mitsu has modified mounts available.. id say prob 80 per cent of the time the vibration is completely gone, or improved greatly.. sadly, sometimes it doesnt do much! as for putting the vehicle in " N " while stopped to save fuel, cmon.. u cant be serious??.. how much fuel will u actually save?? who told u that? what wear on brakes will u cause?? the car isnt moving.. so no friction to burn pads... kooo kooo, kooo kooo!

Ummmm...no, it will wear the clutch and possibly overheat to transmission after extended periods of time...

Cheers,

This really needs to be a sticky FFS. :doubt:

These links will reveal all (there is a wealth of knowledge here for anyone who is interested):

Per those links, I will be most happy to investigate this problem further if someone can tell me what "back-probing" is....grrrr

Very little lol but it does get rid of the damn lumpy idle for a brief time anyway :D

LOL. agreed. A bit hard to cause wear on non-moving parts is'nt it? hehe :bowrofl:

back probing.. umm, ill try and explain.. take a wiring connector.. look at it, from the front, and u will see the tiny little squares (holes) that have either female or male pins in them.. look at the back of the connecting plug, and u will see all the wires that go into it.. when doing an electrical test, its always good to back probe, meaning, to check voltage, ohm, whatever froim the ass end of the plug, so u dont stick ur mulitmeter probes inside the plug and damage the pins! understand? no? good, neither do i!

I understand. Thankyou.

Not sure how many times I had to ask that before getting a reply, but there we go. Might be able to do some investigating now :P

Had the same problem with me TH Solara 2000. Brought to a few dealers to get different opinion. All of them said this is known problem for V6 Magna. I have given up...

Tranny (I assume transmission...) flushed but didn't make any different. Might try adjust the idling speed...
