Hey guys hopefully you can shed some light on what might be the prob with my car heres the rundown
2002
TJ VRX Series 2
40,000clicks
Serviced every 5000km's
Professionally lowered Pedders Sportsryders
CSA Gladiator rims with 235 rubber
Strut brace
Thats all that has been done to the car that i can think that may effect the way the car moves
Anyways the problem,
I just finished work my car had been sitting with the wheels facing straight ahead for about 8 hours. I started the car and i had to turn the wheen to get out of my car park and when trying to turn the wheel nothing happened it was like there was no power steering and i was turning the wheel with the car turned off very very hard. So i shut down the car and went and checked my fluids (which i had done 3 days before ) and all is good the power steering fluid is a red colour and it at the full mark. I then restarted the car and power steering had sort of come back like it was jolty when turning then wheel so i carefully drove her home and here i am writing this hehehe
Any help/ Heads up would be greatly appreciated the car is going to mitsu tomorow morning for the Fuel problem Recall so i can get them to look at it then but i would love to know what im up against
Thanks all and sorry about the long post
Cheers

u can also press the tip of ur fingernail down into the belt, and it the imprint stays it usually measn that the belt is worn? not entirly sure but i think its somethingl ike that :P

i doubt it's your power steering belt. as far as i know, those belts are meant to last as long as your timing belt (100,000 kms). and with these belts, there's no sure way to tell if they are worn other then taking out the whole belt and inspecting every inch of it. the cracks could be hidden on the inside surface of the belt.
rack and pinion systems are pretty maintenance free so i am guessing the problem is your power steering pump or the fluid lines.

Well stuff mistu
This is when i dropped my car off
Me: :" Would it be possible for you to have a look at my power steering please as last night and this morning......... insert my problem"
Mitsu: No you have only booked in for the recall you can book in on the 6th to get the power steering checked"
Me: 2 weeks geese could they just make sure nothing is going to break when im in the middle of driving as this is my daily driver?
Mitsu: No sorry they dont have enought time we are booked out today.
Me: PFFT well thats total crap i will be going to my local mechanic form now on.
Mitsu: Drove into the garage and spend a whole 10 mins looking at my car and said that i need the bit to fix my pipe.
Me: Left in a bloody fit of rage with ****ed power steering.
It just seems to me mitsu dont give a **** about customer service all i wanted was mitsu to have a quick look and tell me **** it's going to fail in the next day or say nah she will be right till we can have a good look at it 2 weeks away so **** Mitsu im going to my local mechanic for everything now, PFFT
Cheers Guys sorry bout the rant

The fact that it seems like a fault that would most likely be covered by warranty, I would try another Mitsubishi dealer, that has better customer service!
Either way, let us know what the problem turns out to be! :)

 Bummer...if that is the case, then return to the original Mitsubishi dealer and demand at least an answer, should not take them more then 15mins to diagnose the problem. Raise it with the workshop and/or dealership manager, if required.
Don't let them boss you around, just because they are the only Mitsubishi dealer!
Sorry, but that is not the right business/service attitude to have...
/rant ..... .....:)

Sorry to hear that Trinedy,
But mate
that is the problem with most of the dealerships as they are not owned by mitsubishi (and/or by parent company) and even if you will call mitsu help line and will try to compalin about the attitude they will tell you that they cant do s**t and complain to the manager of the specific service centre.
Happend to me with my old TH solara that out of the blue alarm+central locking stoped working and it was like 3pm on friday afternoon, took my car to mitus dealership in Footscray (Allan Manace Mitsu) and practically begged them to just have a look and if they can fix the problem I will be really greatfull.(as my car was not under warranty so i was supposed to pay them what ever they asked).
me: i will really appritiate if you can have a lookand fix it as i am unable to park car any where unattended because of the problem.
mitsu: Sorry mate, boys will finish at 4:30pm friday and we dont have enough time to check it out. as we have to check the whole wiring and it can be because of any thing.
me : mate its only 3:15 pm , and because you are professionals i think it wont take your guys more than 15 minutes to find the problem as its an electrical issue.
mitsu: sorry bring it on Tuesday. bys have finished for today. and we are totally booked on monday as well.
so I was furious and called mitsu customer service and they could nt do the sh*t as well.
Later on fixed the problem my self just by changing the fuse for the cabin light took me total 15 minutes to sort out what thing were not working and that alarm was linked to the cabin light.
Moral of the story , Most of the dealerships treat you like an idiot and will try to rip you off with every single chance they will get and they damn care about reputation of the company as its a billion dollar franchise. So avoid them as much as you can.

well i have booked my car into my usual mechanic i dont know if he can do mitsu warrenty work but if he cant i will just get him to tell me what has to be done and i will TELL mitsu to replace the certain part under warrenty assuming the part is.
Thanks for the sympothies (sp) guys :)

the " power steer " problem isnt coming from the bearings in the front strut insulators is it? the pads on top of the front struts have bearings in them.. and if the car has been lowered and so on.. may cause them to fail prematurely.. making turning the wheels a real bit**.. if this is the cause, the dealer will tell u to p*** off, as it isnt a warranty concern from manufacturer 'cos of the modifications.. but if the problem is in fact with the pump or rack.. then yes, its warranty! remeber, drive belts are wear and tear.. dont expect warranty for belts! unless of course the pump blew a seal, and contaminated the belt with oil, in that case, mitsu should change it, free!

well mate im not sure about that but like i said t only happens when i try to turn the wheel right??? but like u said it is basicly impossible to turn the wheel literally i tried will all my might and couldnt get it to work so i just leave the car running for 5 min then it works fine :(
