I am looking at installing an Apexi auto timer into my TF magna, since I am looking to let it cook down properly when I am driving my car like it should be (hard). It has a factory immobilizer, from what I have heard, when the key is removed the ecu goes crazy and turns the car off because it cant find the key. now my question is the key reader has two wires running into it. (taken from my gregory's manual) if I just joined those two wires or separate them, I could test the connection to see what it reads when the key is in and out, would that eliminate the need for the key to be in the ignition???

i doubt it - i think the key readers are more than just a "switch" - they would be power in and data out lines at a guess..
plus i would expect that the data flowing out of the reader and into the ECU would be more than just a key sequence - it would have to have some sort of encryption to stop people from hacking it..
be careful when playing around with the security system on these ive heard they can shut down and terminate themselves! (urm - Asylum - is that what happened to you?)

if that wasnt the case - howcome you need to change your barrel, and BEM when you replace the ECU (with another stock item)?

Mate if it was as easy as shorting the key reader wires then what would be the point of having a transponder immobiliser system?

The key reader sends an electrical sequence to the ECU; it's not as simple as on/off.

What you need is an inductive loop setup which mimics the transponder chip in the key and fools the ECU into thinking a key is present. It will make your car a heap easier to steal though in this case. I refuse to install remote start alarms in such cars for this exact reason because transponder immobiliser setups are typically quite good so why trash it.
