a friend of mine hase a second gen auto , while putting the car into drive it got stuck in reverse at high revs and took of across the road hitting another car , he is having problems with the insurance company saying it was his fault , has any one else heard of a fault the same as this , mitsubishi denies it , but a few mechanics say that it is common , any responce would be helpfull

So he puts the stick into D, but its actually stuck on R ?

get the mechanics to write a letter or contact the insurance mob and inform them that they beleive it is a common problem.....

a transmission stuck in reverse is possible, but also getting it to go into high revs by itself is impossible! Remember this is an old car, the throttle is not electronically controlled, thus it had to be humanly controlled. The throttle body could gotten stuck, but what are the chances of having a jammed throttle and a "stuck in reverse" gearbox occuring at the same time?
