Greetings All.

Im currently thinking about buying a new set of shocks. What is your opinion on Monroe GT Gas shocks and lowered King Springs (45mm Front, 30mm Rear)? How does it ride? Im kind of on a budget, so I prolly cant afford KYB's or Koni's...

Also, If I felt like really spoiling myself (prolly wont happen till next year), I was thinking about a sway bar...if I do, what combanation do you think works well? (ie Front 22m OR Rear 24mm OR ETC.)

(Ive got quotes which range from $420 to $470 for the shocks alone...Worth it??)

Cheers,

GT Gas give a fairly firm ride but wear out quickly if driven hard. On a budget setup they are fairly good.

Depending on what car you have, upgrade the rear swaybar so that it's around 2mm thicker than the front. If there's no rear bar then definately fit one. There's many threads on this topic so do a search.

What suspension modifications are needed to make the Magna throtle off oversteer easier?

Also can anyone confirme that the stock front swaybar on the TE/TF is 18mm?

Unless it is a Sports it doesnt come with one...does it??
Also, what handles better, a bigger rear sway or front??

I have that combination except I have 30mm Kings front and rear. It rides ok. It can be firm(ish) on some roads, but nothing too bad.

They all have a front swaybar; the rears I don't think the base spec models have. For maximum lift-off oversteer you want a very thick rear bar compared to the front. Don't forget though that if your springs/dampers are sh|t then a swaybar isn't going to help much.

Like anything - matter of budget. But Monroe GTs are good for non-racing driving. Used them before in a Cortina. They can handle lot of punishment and last reasonably long.
Apparently GT is same as Pedders Sports Ryder shocks.
I have full Ryder package with Tower Bar and 235's. Handling is very good. Could it be better? Yeah, of course, but with twice as much money spent.
My TE comes front sway bar std. Back? Oups, cannot remember.
Checked Whiteline stuff yet?

How to what off throttle? Toe-in and camber adjustments affect such handling? More toe in and it dives better in to a corner, but eventually will understeer (push). Less toe and it's more neutral, but harder to turn in. Is that what u meant? Those differences vary (naturally) depending on the ride height, shocks, tyres etc variables. One cannot say: "do this and it's sweet" - whole package matters.

Springs n shocks fine, now just need that rear monster sway bar

I'll prolly settle for a 22mm rear sway bar and front strut brace, while I'm at it maybe camber adjustment pin for the front.

I got a quote for KYB "Excel-G"s which seem to be their only magna fitment & it was $400 all round. That was from Trevor at www.onautos.com.au ... seems they're offering free shipping for online orders too..
From most opinions, they seem to be a step above Monroes for quality.
Hope this helps.
