Hi guys, for some strange reason, my Pioneer head unit does not have a power antenna wire. So, with the little knowledge of car audio that I have I am guessing that if I connect the factory (pink) power antenna wire to the accessory wire on the pioneer head unit - this should work???

If not does anyone know how I could best complete this circuit?

Yes that will work, Just means that ur antenna will be up when the cd player is on, but thats good cos it means less wear and tear on ur antenna mechanisms. There should be a remote wire for your antenna, connect these up. You can install a separate switch if you want to control it. This doesnt provide the power to your antenna, just a remote signal. Like with amps. If you have an amp as well, just join the wire from your amp remote to the antenna.

Good luck.

Peace

Tim

Thanks mate. I appreciate your help!

It's going to be a fun one to pull the dash out again just for a bloody antenna! haha.

The install yesterday, took 9 hrs - two guys. All because Im too bloody stubborn and cheap!

lol, I have never paid anyone money to do any audio work on my car... It's all worth it doing it yourself. You appreciate it so much more. My car's been out of action for 2 months. I only get two hours each weekend in between work and play.

Have you got amps installed in the back atm? If so you wont need to do that much, just run it from the amp remote to the auto antenna. Eesy Peesy

My aerial is running off the remote turn on wire and i pissed me off cuz everytime i turned the CD player on.. up went the aerial, so I bought a $2 switch :D Everyone wants to know what it does and no more aerial.. unless I need it.

9 hours! thats quick. mine took a whole weekend :)

nothing went to plan for me though.. :)

Here's a list of problems I had.

I sliced my finger open with a stanley knife trying to cut into the rubber grommet in the firewall
I dropped the end of the fuse cover into the engine bay.. took me abou 20 mins to get it back :)
I had to take the seats in and out a few times cos I forgot a cable then realised I shouldn't have the power lead next to the audio leads..
Had to drill new holes for the front speakers
Soldered the speaker wire to one of the tweeters before putting the round dash plug thing on the wire.
6x9's wouldn't drop in comfortably.. took lots of fiddling.
had to use the original speaker covers because the ones that came with the speakers looked stupid in the massive whole left be the stock ones.
I had to cut out the bottom of the original 6x9 covers so they would fit over the new 6x9's
I had the same problem with the antenna wire
I had to drill new holes in the h/u brace thingi cos it didn't match up..
Once it was all back together I realised I had left my air conditioning and hazzard lights unplugged
In the morning when I went to start the car to go to work I had a dead battery!

It was the most fun I've had in ages.. :P

I recommend that anyone getting a stereo install it themselves rather than forking out heaps of dough. It's fun, you learn a bit and its damn satisfying when you finally get it working :D

Damn!!! lol
It's all good as long as you can get it all back together without busting anything.

Well.... (9 hours to run all of the wires setup and install the amp & plonk in one of the splits)
Still got the 6x9's and the other split to install yet, but should be pretty straight forward from here. Except for pulling the whole dash out again to wire up the antenna.

Haha all fun and games though. And yeah your right, I am sure it will be satisfying having it all in and pumping. Also, the added bunus of installing it yourself... I know it has all been done with the greatest of care. no exposed wires, all using factory conduit, soldered connections etc... This install will last the lifetime of the car, and thats satisfying.

None of this "just pull that cable through under that part of the carpet, it's the easiest way and the owner will never know" type install that you get from some (not all) car install places. Doing it yourself gives you that extra piece of mind. :D
