Greetings All.

Ive got my eyes on a GREAT set of 17x8" Advanti Stalkers...
Now I was just wondering...will 235/45 R17 tyres fit?? Because these tyres are the closest I can get to my stock rolling diameter...

Thoughts?

Howdy Tonba
You're a NSW dude, right? If so, I'm pretty sure u can only go up to 7" legally on the rim width in your car. Max one inch up from "widest optional" rim as per tyre plackard.
Otherwise that tyre size is ok for 8" rim. There isn't many 235 tyres which can be fitted on to 7" rim, some Michelins and Hankooks. Then comes the matter with The Book of Tyre Regulations, which has its own regs....
Try some 225/50/17 and remember the load rates too.... too b-dy complicated, eh!
Rubber wise - depending on budget, Falkens and Toyos TPGs are good on the lower price range (200+) then anything up from there for really good tyres.

These were $1400 for a set of 4 with rubber of my chooseing...oh well...im going to have to ask them if the will do the deal with 17x7"...doubt it though...

Oh, by the way, i wont be allowed to have 225/50/17 because the rolling circumfrence is more then 15mm... it becomes something like 26mm... anyways... Is that right??? meh! ill look into it a bit more!

Cheers!! Thanks for bringing that to my attention!!

You can use 225/50/17, view my calculation. Quite legal.
Who are you dealing with? Tempe or Ozzy.....?????

Except that the load rating will be the killer. Those Hankook tyres are the only ones I've seen with a load rating of 95 or higher (98).

Good morning, good to see that you're awake there and not sleeping on your desk.... :)
Yeah, load rate is the bugger, I dunno if Tonba has 94 or 95 like we both do. Limits the legal tyre selection to - hmmm, not many....
But let's not start on that, just makes me mad

I run the Falken Azenis ST115 235/45/R17 which are 97 load rating; fairly soft tyre that grip very well and have extremely stiff sidewalls as they are reinforced. Wet performance is excellent, dry is excellent, wear is good, I'm pushing about 25KKms so far on this set and they are about 70% worn with fairly hard driving. If you want really hardcore dry handling (but average in the wet), go for the Azenis realsport semi-slicks.

Also look at the Michelin Pilot Preceda in same size, and the Continental Contisport Contacts.

All 3 cost around $280 a piece but are perfect for spirited driving.

I dont know what your driving but NRMA are the ones who make the 7inch max rule, there is alot of tech on wheel mods. for mine to be legal and get a engineers cert i can put upto 9inchs wide on my VRX and as big as i want as long as i adjust speedo(calibrate) if its more than 15mm change in rolling diametre. also as long as they are within the guards and dont hit anything they are legal..

NRMA do have a 7 inch width policy but I think it's based on 1 inch wider than factory. Queensland Transport I don't think specifiy a maximum width.

There's two things your car has to conform to mechanically:

1) Roadworthyness which you registration is a contract with you to keep it so.

2) Insurable which is determined by who you choose to be insured by.

Well, it depends on your insurer. I mean, if you've got a VR-X and are allowed 1 inch over factory then yes. If you have an Exec, then no. But it comes down to your insurer and your local road authority. You should be asking them.

Engineer goes off tyre placard, what ever i put on mine have to be engineered and he said i can go as wide as 9". i wont be though as they wont fit up under the guards...

The wheels fit no probs there or with the insurer, but Local road authority could have something different to say. When i was in Townsville the cops are there are all over you as soon as you wheels ( nothing else ) done on your car let alone a big exhaust system and they had no probs with them
