After googling for some modifcations to do for my upcoming 1999 TH magna, i came across this article which doesnt want to link properly, only shows first paragraph for some reason, so i figured id post it here and ask everyones opinion.
My question is, is there any truth to this article? Are the upgrades feesable mainly, and what doing some of these things would cost you. Also interested if anyone has done anything similar.
I'd be interested into what kind of power gain would these upgrades give as well.
Any opinions appreciated. If its a valid article i may be doing some of this stuff to my TH when i get it

im kinda in the same boat, tho i am only really looking at the exhaust atm. the guys i spoke to (local) said that i would prolly get an extra 80-100k's to the tank with a 2 1/2" custom sys, anyone know the merit of that sort of claim
(sorry for semi-hijackin)

Very much doubt that. If you've got a 3.5l engine they you'll already have 2.4 inch mandrell bent piping. Just swap the muffler and you'll see a neat gain in power past 3500 rpm.

From an engine viewpoint (TH 3.5L manual), I have made it breath better from the outside of the core motor ie cold air induction, high-flowed throttle body, extractors, 3" exhaust, high-flow cat, lukey muffler etc. Also greddy piggy-back ECU.
Substantial improvements in power throughout the range, and sounds so good
Starting from scratch:
a - do the exhaust setup first. go either 2.75" or 3" mandrel-bent system, including muffler and cat. May as well fit the extractors now, too.
b - fit high-flow throttle body.
c - fit CAI
d - fit greddy and retune the whole thing.
Seriously look at suspension eg front strut brace, rear sway bar, lowering, and also look at your front brakes.
You will be able to go faster, you will be tempted to go faster, so you had better be able to stay on the road and stop quickly and safely.
My plans now are to open up the motor, and look at changes to cams, pistons, compression ratio. Leave off the cams until certain if you are going to go forced induction, because the profiles are different, and you don't want to buy cams for N/A and have to buy others because of hair dryers etc.
www.rpw.com.au has suggestions and rationale for these sorts of mods. What you do is up to you.

Putting the 2.5" system on monday 6th dec with the Lukey LR2779 and a phat Gen3 V8 tip. Getting 11.3l/100 from my AWD tippa around town and a little highway. Have CAI and K&N Pod, will post my findings when they're avail.
My buddy at Mitsubishi said the VRX/Sports muffler ($400 ouch) is good for an extra 8-10% over the executive twin tip muffler. Everyone just gets the Lukey LR2779 for $160 for the same result :D Start there.
The LR2779 can be re-fitted to a 2.5" system later when your money materialises. Best gain for your money. Next get a K&N panel or Pod filter. Throttle body will help your part throttle response too.
Later worry about headers, 2.5" or 3" exhausts, ported heads, cams etc.
Get used to and bored with your new performance after each mod then upgrade I reckon. Otherwise you'll do it all and get used it and be bored sh*tless.

No, some of us get the AL4-5597 which is a bolt on swap for about the same price.

Hey that's cool lol Try before you buy !! I love it.
Yeah, I agree, the AL4 sounds sportier. Would that be better than a stock VRX/sports muffler ?
