Sounds as if the electrical system is having some problems...battery? alternator? Maybe your battery is being over worked...ie too much current being pulled...Only other thing i can think of is ECU problems...

Hmmmmm,

hey bales
with the central locking; i dont know much about them but apparently they are easy to fix/alter, if u wanna have a look at it or someone else on here that mite know about them mite be able to tell ya, or even get an alarm installer to look at it.

rough idle - only thing i can think of is a service :doubt:

Light problem = new globe in most cases

trip computer - dunno, but with that and the interior light problem, i would check the fuse box, otherwise get em to check it on service

You'll find a reference to this in your users manual. If I remember correctly - it does this when the ECU has been reset (disconnected your battery lately - or not, the other symptoms may indicate a faulty/on last legs battery). It's basically asking you your engine size, and I think it might ask you for transmission type also - the only purpose is so that it can calculate your fuel economy etc in the trip computer.

I've never experience any of the symptoms except for the one I refer to above - but read on here recently that the late model magnas are renowned for displaying 'funny' faults as an indication that the battery is on it's last legs. Some places (beaurepairs) I think will do free, no obligation battery tests.

As black beard said, but you probably need to "set" your trip computer.

S=sedan
5=wagon

Select whichever is appropriate by pressing mode and then hold mode until it beeps and displays either 3.0 or 3.5. Select your engine size and hold mode again. This will set your ECU to run in the right specs.

I am guessing that by correctly setting the computer, or rather just setting the computer, this may sort out the central locking and rough idle issue due to the fact the computer is currently seeking user input before it can become properly operational. This is a stab in the dark, but thats what I would do.

As to what has caused this problem, most likely the battery. Either it has been disconnected or its stuffed. I have been told by mitsu that when a battery fails, it can affect the ISC (idle speed controller) and when the battery problem is fixed, they can reset the ISC. This may need to be done to get your idle back to normal unless you have been afflicted with the dreaded "lumpy idle" syndrome. In which case, very sorry to hear about it, join the club! :flame:

Just on a side note..... Maybe we should all (us TH/TJ owners with 'rough idle' issues) just start telling people we've got aftermarket cams!!! :confused:

I'm drunk....... you don't have to tell me :gtfo: - I know.

ok, interior light and central locking not working cos id say the fuse is blown.. open the bonnet, and pop the fuse cover off.. check the 2 fuses in that little yellow plastic holder.. u may need to pop the holder up, and then check the fuses.. one is dome from memory, and thats probably blown, stuffing the light and central lock! the s display is asking " sedan " the w is for " wagon... and 3.0 being for 3 ltr, 3.5 for 3.5ltr.. this is for the trip comp to know the settings.. when they flash.. hold down the mode button to set them correctly! with the rough idle, and trip settings flashing.. id say the battery has either gone flat on u, or has been replaced???? if so.. the stepper motor, isc, is prob fouled up with carbon... remove the air filter box to the throttle body, just remove the hose clamp and the small hose that goes into it near by.... get ur phillips screw driver or 8mm socket on ur ratchet, and remove the 2 bolts to the stepper motor.. remove the motor.. clean, using carby cleaner, all the junk off it, and make it nice and clean.. making sure u havent dropped the rubber o ring seal, which might be stuck to it, or hopefully, its still in the throttle body! refit everything, run the car with the a/c on, take it for a drive , and bob's ur uncle.. i reckon its fixed!

this guy is absolutely right. had the same problem before and it was due to a blown fuse.

Yup, thats exactly what I told bales when looking at his car briefly earlier tonight.

Unfortunately it was getting a bit late & dark to do anything about it tonight, but hopefully in the light of tomorrow a simple solution (such as replacing a blown fuse or dead battery as has been suggested again here) will present itself and prove to be the fix!
