Hi People,
Can someone please describe to me how to remove the driveshafts, the Gregory's makes no sense to me, and every time i ask someone they say: "OMG DRIVESHAFTS ARE SOOOO EASY" I dont want to hear that, i want someone to tell me up front how to do it because its ****ting me. I managed to lever the left hand one off the relay shaft about an inch, thats all...

Thanks,
AF

ok done this in a 2nd get heaps of times so your should be the same

you have to remove the hub end first, otherwise its a ***** of a job

first thing is to undo the hub nuts (not the wheel nuts yet) the hub nut is the big one in the middle of the wheel.

then jack up the car and support it on stands, remove the front wheels

undo the bolts holding the strut to the hub assembly

underneath the car remove the 2 bolts holding the mount for the relay shaft on the rear of the motor (the passenger side shaft is a 2 piece one, theres a long straight shaft comming out of the gearbox and going allong the back of the motor, at the end before it tilts down to the hub is a bracket holding it to the motor, this thing is a ***** to get out)

ok then withdraw the driveshaft from the hubs, you should be able to swing it out of the way enough to get the shaft free.

underneath the car, drain the transmission fluid from the gearbox, otherwise when you pull she shafts out oil will go everywhere

once you have done that get a big flat screwdrive and insert it between the shaft and the diff housing (where it goes into the gearbox) and put some pressure on it then give it a sharp tap and it should pop put (the clips are designed so that they wont just pull out, you need a sharp shock to remove em

Never had to use a screwdriver, i have always been able to pull on it hard enough (with a quick jolt) and had them come out. By the way you dont need to remove the extension shaft (or unbolt anything) when doing the passenger side, the drive shaft will come clean out of it without removing it from the gearbox. All you have to do is line up the spline and push the new one back in.

You can go the other way and undo the ball joint (tie rod end) and knock it out, it will allow you to move the stub axle around enough to get the drive shaft out of the hub.

1st gens must be a little different to 2nd gens then, i know the 2nd gen driveshaft and extension is 1 piece on my ts, taking it appart would involve dissasselbling a cv , 1st gens probably have different clips on the end of the shafts to keep them in the diff, i know mine were a ***** to get out,

undoing the tierod end isnt a good idea, it will throw your wheel alignment out, trust me, tried it once and took it in and one side had 8mm of toe (thats a fair bit  i run 3mm total toe usually ;-))

Yeah, this is a TP it is 2 parts, you can just seperate the actual driveshaft from the extension shaft without having to unbolt anything (they are just splines like the rest of the drive shaft, they just pop in the same). Never even had to touch the extension shaft when i did the CV joints recently and i have never had a problem popping them out :)

It wont throw your alignment out either, you arent undoing the tie rod end you are undoing the ball joint. The tie rod end is still locked on the tie rod itself, it isnt going to move. All you do is undo the nut on the top of the ball joint, knock the joint out and you are done. The balljoint is part of the tie rod end, it comes off still attached to the rod itself.

Pretty easy once u know how....lol. I ended up removing the hub and prying it out, came out easy enough. :)
