Hey guys

I've got my car booked in to get a fuel-smell problem fixed. I think it's running rich and others agree. Anyway, IF the cat is stuffed I want to replace it with a third-party variety.. hopefully a lukey to match my muffler. I know it could be many other things not just the cat, thats why it is going to a mitsu dealer to be diagnosed. oh, and a genuine is $680!!!!

My questions are:

Who makes aftermarket cats for magnas?

Are they any good?

I had a fuel smell fixed recently - it was the fuel filler where it joined the tank - the tank was replaced under warranty (thankfully).

The smell (if the car is rich) - is it like rotten eggs? This apparently is normal, I complained and they refused to fix under warranty (waah)... An aftermarket cat is not as expensive as OE - some of the highflow cats are extremely ordinary - investigated these for a car I used to have - had a 3" clean air technology cat that worked very well, until it melted (damn BOV) - ended up with a walker 3" highflow - didn't have any issues with it...

The car was a Saab 900 turbo with 18psi boost and a voracious appetite for gearboxes and CV joints (the reason I sold it)

Is your fuel consumption high?

Cheers

Thanks for the response.. yeah fuel consumption does seem a little high.. not excessively high tho. I spoke to a place yesterday and they told me that his six suppliers (including walker) don't make cats for magnas... that seems odd to me, I didn't think cats were so 'special' for each car.

I hope my problem isn't the fuel tank.. a genuine mitsu tank would probably cost heaps.
