As I've now got a spare Astron, any ideas on modifications? It will be overbored, providing I can obtain some information on pistons, etc. can somebody suggest?

Head (camshafts, etc) has already been accounted for with modification, as is exhaust headers (2.25") to comply with the head mod.
No suggestions needed regarding that.

The timeframe for this is unimportant, as it need not be ready before September next year.

first of all, are u talking about an efi or carby engine?

carby engine: wat jason has said above will suffice, though boreing it out to a 2.8L (thats the max u can go) will also help alot. slightly higher compression, i wouldnt do a 11:1 job though lol... ur headwork obviously... now u can either go a twin carby setup or the single big carby. i think a twin setup would sound nicer. nice, deep note wen both u ark it up and the secondarys fly open. though a big single carb will do the job. its about pouring the fuel in with the carbys :D... high performance oil pump and timing chain kit which is very important. a big one i see alot is deleting counter balance shafts.

efi engine: cant really tell ya much. boreing it out i spose. high performance oil pump and timing chain kit. water injection u could have a look at to keep temperatures down <--- that would also be good for the carby. other than that ya cant really do too much else to the block. just the basic strengthen internal stuff. pistons etc...
