View Full Version : Meshing - seemed like a good idea at the time!

Well I have been interested to know what meshing the front might look like on my car, so i jumped in the car went and bought a kit and in 30 mins I had it all meshed up... then I realised I had made a fundamental error... in my haste I failed to notice the inner shell of the TH grill which i happily put aside, has the fixed fasteners to connect the grille back to the car, so here I am I have got it meshed up and realised I could not put the damn thing back on! [insert laughter here]

So I thought, take a snap of it then rip that mesh off and put it in the "seemed like a good idea" pile. Oh and yes that is $4 keeping the front of the grille up  ..oh well, back to the drawing board! Any meshing experts faced this? How did you get around it?

Autobarn, I got a huge piece for $30 (bin material now! sorta) but you can get smaller pieces for $16 i think it was in Black, Red, Blue, and silver.

In my earlier modding years I would have probably settled for cable ties but I couldn't bare to do it now, do it rite or don't do it at all IMO.

I ran into this problem doing mine.. (which youve seen neil)

And i just used double sided tape to stick the grill to the bumper and headlights...
Seems to work, its stuck on good and hasnt fallen off. And if i need to take it off, i just replace the tape :D

hope that helps

BTW Looks good man!!!

Hahaha, cut it out around the supports and sikaflex it in place, you can even use tiny screws on the back to hold it in place then sikaflex it, I think a couple of guys have even used a hot glue gun.
The grill bits I think have to be cut out though.

damn... so does that mean i have to take em off :( lol

THe down side of the way i have done it is i have neons all through the car. one of them is behind the grille.. well under (you cant see it) anyway, the black original mesh shows up and you cant see the chrome stuff (at night when the neons are on). I might cut the black stuff out to see what it looks like..but it wont be as strong as it was :(

Spend your moneh on colour coding, meshing looks gay compared to whats on a stock TH grille.

hehe yeah well my toolbox pretty much just consists of a 50 pack of cable ties, a wheel nut socket and ratchet :D

my front and rear bars are both held on by cable ties :)

but i can see ur point

Thought it was ok for me to dig up my own thread to show of my new meshing... it was a bit of a spoiling for my car after the damage was done last week (you cant see it so well now as I have used touch up paint) So yeah, I finally got around to doing it... pretty happy with the results.

My eyes are playing tricks on me, cause your mesh looks pink???

Good job though mate, cant really see that accident though, you must have covered it up ok.

Hey, you should paint the grille white, that would look sweet, also the black bits down the bottom of the bumper.

Ha ha yeah... just the way the light has caught it... (don't need any more pink things on my car lol)

Yeah when I get the damage fixed I am going to be looking at possibly doing some colour coding around the rest of the car.

If i can find me digital camera i will take some pictures of me ralliart  . i have meshed the front grille but am debating as to whether i should mesh the front bumper as well seems a task just to rip the bumper off  . Meshing is the easy part once you rip the old mesh off

Heres what my verada looks like with a meshed grill. It took a while to grow me but now i think it looks pretty mean inbetween the parabolics.

About 6 Months ago when i had my Hyundai accent, i decided to mesh my front bar.

1st Prob, Decide not to remove the front bar
2nd Prob, Decide to lay underneth the car whilst glueing masonary plugs on the the Bar
3rd prob, decide not to use safety goggles
Last prob, using a hot glue gun, a piece of glue dropped onto my face, actually my eyelid, lucky i closed my eyes or i would have been most likely blinded my right eye, then having the hot glue burning away and trying to remove the F***ing S**t,

I'll just say never to try meshing a grill or bar without using a safe approach. I did it wrong and suffered.

On the 3rd gens, the front garnish unscrews from the rest of the grill not sure if the second gens are the same. You can then cut the mesh to size, and then srew the standard grill in behind it to sandwich it in place. Its really easy and takes about 15mins tops
It cost just under $30 for quiet a large piece from autobarn
