EDIT: Front bar completed
See page 4 of this thread: http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12291&page=4
__________________________

After a recent accident, I am having my front bar re-made.

Below are the current ideas. What do people think? I do like the side vent thing... but not sure how it suits the car? Maybe cleaner/simple is better?

Anyway, comments please! :)

Oh, and before people start asking... yes, the bar might be available as a purchasable item :) I'll let you know when I can confirm and have more details :)

the third type i think looks the best!!

the first one looks a bit too plain on the corners, whereas the third design has the vent on it .... makes it look meaner...

Type 1... but with the side vent like Type 3...

That little front mini vent looks off.

:stoopid: i think it looks a little chunky but yeah, type 1 and 3 combined breaks it up a bit. Could the artist try to shine it up a bit and get more of a colour match if possible? Is the artist you? How much are you anicipating the cost of building at? Get that image as close to actual as possible.

Kim
01-12-2004, 12:22 PM
yes, the artist is me. I might be able to shine it up a bit...

Well, i hope i didn't come across as critical there, I couldn't do it that good even at this stage so yeah, nice chop anyway, I thought given you were getting it built that someone else was doing the design... good on you for being different (and i mean that in a good way lol)

If it sticks out heaps it'll look horrid. Can't stick out any further than the stock Magna bar (not the verada, that sticks out too far)

my old bar stuck out too far and looked like a big nose :( This ones going to be a bit more discreet... (more like the factory bar, as killbilly said).

Whats the thing your putting on your car?

i second what Killbilly said about not making it stick out too far. Some guy at my Uni has a front bar on his 2nd gen magna which sticks out soo far it looks ugly. Also reckon any of the bars look good but preference is for the 4th.

I wouldnt mind seeing a photo of that other front bar that sticks out too far... haven't seen many other 2nd gens with custom front bars.

You can see how far my old bar stuck out in this pic: http://www.fastmagna.com/feature/kim/images/large/kims_ts2.jpg

Ok, close to 2 years later I have the bar on! (not painted yet).

Heres the revised concept (photoshop of a Toyota Corolla Bar):

Heres the Toyota Corolla bar fitted, and cut to the Magna width:

Are you planning on meshing up the gap?

Kim

yep, it'll all get meshed once it's painted. And driving lights are to go in too, probably small ones in the upper side vents.

Unfortunately not :( The person who I had making the full custom bar pulled out, so I had to get an off-the-shelf bar cut and modified instead (so don't have a mould where more bars can be easily made).

Heres the finished product:

Only thing to do now is to fix the front indicators - don't like my attempt at a "parabolic" look. Might just go with clear.

That front bar is more nicer than the first choices well done. It all flows very nicely now. Those indicators are ok maybe try thwm without the orange plastic in em? Just an idea. Looks good how much did it cost all up fitment & painting?

well im a fan of the 3rd pic but minus the the little slot under the side vent. but thats just me.
is that a pic of ur car??
if so the front bar will need to be as aggressive as the rest of your kit .
for example the fifst pic is to smooth but the other look a little more aggressive tso it kinda fits.

Kim
27-10-2006, 02:14 PM
Not sure what painting cost - as it was done with a heap of other work (radiator repairs, reo bar, bonnet, side panels, etc) - however the bar itself cost around $900 - $500 for the off the shelf bar, and $300 for the cutting/fibreglassing to make it fit.

Smooth2 - the front bar is all finished now - scroll up for the final pic (or see here: http://www.kmaisch.com/temp/finished-bar.jpg )

Kim your car looks tops. That front bar is amazing!
How much was it! Give us the details! What kind of front bar is it? Custom?
I'm thinking of getting a new front bar with large front to accomodate the intercooler for the supercharger i'm getting fitted in november.

Damn that's nice. I'm putting your car as my wallpaper :D

Kim
29-10-2006, 04:34 PM
hehe thanks dimi :)

It's a Corolla front bar from carmate.com.au - needed to be cut and re-fibreglassed in the middle to fit the wider Magna. Bar cost $500 to get to Tasmania, $300 to modify, not sure what painting cost.

I'll get some more pics up at some stage soon.

Why do you say they're dodgy?

I've had no experience with them but at least their willing to do the one-off custom jobs.
Local places in Victoria I've contacted in the past have just said 'no'. Seems they have enough work fitting OTS stuff & aren't interested in anything else.

Had a blue with one of the workers there.
I've enquired about a lot of things for the supra from them and i've purchased from them a few times. Quite rude and arrogant. A lot of people in sydney who've dealt with them know they're a rip off and quite rude too.
One instance, the short wog bloke was talking to me i asked him how much for the TRD shocks he goes $990 i go bit pricey mate and he goes well if you don't like it then you can go elsewhere and gave me a smirk. Now usually i let these things pass, but that day i had enough. I said come out side for a sec. Elbow'd him in the head. Told him don't be smart. And he goes oh oh i'm sorry mate i've just had a bad day  Hate arrogant pricks like that.

But hey, I guess if they're willing to do the custom work for you, then it's all good.
Just personally, i'd shop around before going straight to carmate.

Edit: And i've just realised we were talking about jetspeed. Sorry people was thinking about carmate :sook:
Don't know about jetspeed never dealt with them.
Was thinking of carmate the whole time haha.

HAHAHA - I nominate that for best quote of 2006!
Carmate seem hella dodgy as, wouldn't touch them. Jetspeed i've heard nothing but good things, heard they can be abit pricy as well, but their product is top notch.
There's also SSV if you just want to get a lip for your front bar.

Yeah the shiny parabolics + chrome grille seem to match well (like one piece going all the way across). It jumps out a bit in the photo.

As for blurring out the numberplates - I'm just sort of following suit - it seems like the done thing? I'm assuming it's for some sort of privacy thing. I should get some custom novelty plates (with my name or something on it) that I could put on when taking photos :)
