Hey All,

I'm hopefully going to install my subs this weekend, im just curious if anyone has any tips/thoughts or comments on how to do this in a tj magna :)

ie 'dont twist this thingy-ma-bob to get it off it will break and cost you two organs and a limb'

Im especially looking at how to get the dash out, where to pass the wires thru the cabin and also how to get thru the firewall

Also it looks like there is room allocated for some howto/guides on such things, have these been written and not linked??

Thanks in advance!!!

Dont leave any rubber grommets out if you happen to feed the wire thru them

Wiring: (for an auto TF, I think TJ should be the same)
Make sure you have a fuse installed very close to the battery. Fuse should be the sum of all your amps at most. Preferably use an ANL fuseholder. Use the thickest guage you can afford. 4 or 2... usually, depending on application.
To get through firewall if you look from the drivers side, down low behind the centre console (ashtray height i think. Pull down the carpet) you'll see a grommet with a tube going through it. There should be enough room there to fit most sizes through (0 gauge easily) Get a stanley knife, preferably start with a screwdriver. Slice/push through it (Dont get too excited you want the tightest fit possible so theres no leaks)

To see this from the engine bay follow the tube that goes in from the engine. into the centre of the firewall. Enters just under where the black firewall sound proofing material stops.

Run your wire through here. Feed it through your centre console then out under the carpet. You can remove one of the seats to feed it through but its not necessary.
Pull out the back seat, by lightly pulling the tabs at the front of the seat and lifting. You can run your power line on the side if you want, I chose under the seat, away from the cable guides to stop any induction interference.

Push it under the back rest, lift up some of the carpet at the back, should be pretty easy to feed it through.

Be careful not to cut it on any metal, use cable ties (they are ur friend) use loom tubes, those plastic protectors. Use heatshrink. Use Proper distribution blocks if you want to install another amp.

Pass wires through in the stock locations usually. For speakers and rca's anyway. Make sure their not running alongside power cables though. Well not ur amp power cables anyway. Lift up the grey plastic covers under the doors where you step on when u get in ur car. They just pop off. Should be self explanatory after that

Make your ground out of the same wire or bigger that you used for ur power. Find a bolt and sand it back to bear metal, then use star washers to bite into the wire. Make sure the ground is as short as possible and ground multiple amps into the same location.
Heres other crap iv done, dont think theres any specific howto's on here atm

I routed my power cable on the left hand side under the dash board and above the kickpanel. There is a black grommet with a Air Conditioner (i think) overflow pipe sticking through it. The power wire can then be brought up into the engine bay through another grommet on the left hand side.

Keep Power and Line Level cables as far apart as possible.

I think your in SA. If you get stuck let me know and i can show you how i have done it.

Hey, off question... but on the parcel shelf on the TE+, doesnt it have a factory space for a "small" sub?? in the middle of the 2 factory 6x9's?

yeah i saw that, the big round thing that you can see from in the boot I think 8" stock sub. I couldnt think of anything else for it. Probs with the premium sound system, can anyone confirm dis?

No magna has ever had a "premium" sound system besides the ralliart and GTV, neither including a sub. Usually when their is a factory sub it is mounted inside the spare wheel :D

From what I've been told, the space there was for a sub in the U.S. Diamante's. No Aust. cars got it.

if ur thinkin of putting in a sub back there ul need an angle grinder probs... And ul need to take off the parcel shelf cover etc. A free air sub would be best if ur using the boot as the enclosure...

Let us know how this goes mate... Could be interesting (or disastrous) ;)
I'd stick with a box. Esp if you wanna put any real power through

Peace

Yep...definately stick with a box. I had the same idea for mne originally, but a free-air sub is not meant to be anywhere near as good as one that's in an enclosure.

nar thats the steering wheel column grommet. I didnt want to go through there cos theres too many moving parts that i dont want to interfere with. To find the one Im talking about. In an auto anyway. Its to the left of that one in the pic, behind the centre console. I can take photos tomoz if you want.

Yeah it will be fine, Just make sure you use cable ties etc so it cant move around and do any damage.
