A while back on my way to Brizzy(not long after getting the new TS), I decided to see what the old girl could do. From 100kp/h I planted my foot and attempted to get a top speed reading. It was fine up until about 170-175 when it started screaming like a murder victim and scaring me into backing off the gas at 180kp/h. It's the 3ltr 6 with 220kp/h on the dash so why only 180??. Would the tiptronic from a third gen be the way to go to get those extra k's and if so would a need diff be needed too? or should i look into having speed/rev limiter(what ever the hell it's called) reset. I don't plan on going anywhere near 180 to often but it would be nice to know it can do it if it has to.

ill second that! just think of what mods you could have done with that money
is there a reason you want to have such high top end speed? most people look for pick up, not top end

At least there's one good thing about living in the NT. Apart from the obvious risk of killing yourself in a horrific accident, there's nothing stopping you from hitting 220kph on a nice long stretch of highway.

And the 3.5 is still pulling when it hits the limiter!

Once, on a dead road with tons of free room. I dont want to go there again, it scared me, plus I dont want to go faster...

I'm not saying I'm free of that stuff, but I only did it once in the safest possible conditions I could get, and wont do it again, nor do I want to.

Why not want to go that fast?. Some like the thrill they get from smashing 400m in 10secs or under, I like the way trees and landscape blur while hitting 260+. But.... my rev problem still stands, so if anyone has anything constructive to say please help me out.

why dont u try make your car hit 260+ at the end of the 1/4 and get the best of both worlds? You want to do 260+ on the street? u r an idiot, i hope u crash and burn and more importantly take no one else with you :gtfo:

what rpm was it when you maxed out? I have a TF 3.0L, goes to 180 with no probs, just a matter of safety. Try to smooth out the engine by using very thin oil for high speed runs and make sure all your brakes aren't dragging, try to block of any unneccessary holes at the front of the car for better Aero (big Intercooler sort of opennings causes BIG BIG pressure drag), pump up your wheels a tad more.... btw, this is becoming a recipy of death.

There's no street long/un-used/safe enough to do 260+ in australia. You hope i die??? buddy your the 1 with issues. I want to be able to do these speeds in a controlled area(like a raceway) not a ****ing street you twit.

Cool it already!

Shoulda sed you wanted this for the tracks from the start... It is just a family car remember... But play safe either way.

At least at that speed your not going to be a cripple in an accident. :doubt:

Mate thats uncalled for, if scooter wants to do high speed runs let him full stop. If he wants to risk killing himself thats his decision, lets hope things don't turn bad for his and the publics state.

Its comments like this that is really giving AM members the sh!ts including myself...

It was in the middle of the night on a 4 lane highway

Plus there's always ppl going on about how their ralliart or 3rd gen can do xxx amounts of speed and ppl are all hype about it, I do 180 and it's a big problem for everyone else. If you don't wanna help me improve my ride go away and don't read my posts.

It's more the circumstances (The admission of $1,200 odd dollars in fines) that people are complaining about.

Is the engine out of tune? Perhaps that's why it's only hitting 180km/h. First gen Astrons can do that or near that, and a second gen V6 should be able to hit 190-200km/h.

Under controlled circumstances I've had mine off the 180km/h analog speedo, but I now no longer take it over 130km/h (Due to the tyres)

Don't chuck a tizzy mate, you knew well before you posted this was going to be controversial. Why you'd have how much money in speeding fines (barre to gloat) in your signature is beyond me and evidently quite a few others on here.

It was made pretty obvious by your first post that the top speed wasn't for the track so don't put others down by saying that.

I'm more than willing to help, but with the context in which the speed was being used in the example, I don't see why I should. So don't attack anymore people on here as you knew this would cause a fuss.
