My Tp magna wagon has been nothing but trouble since I bought it 3 weeks ago. Stalling, surging, nearly getting me killed. Ive changed the tps, the air filter, fuel filter, battery terminals and the idle speed control motor. The car is still showing a good drop in rpm when I turn the lights or AC on. Any suggestions besides walking. Thanks.

Get a load test on the battery.
The battery should supply initial extra load before alternator adjusts to this increased load. When you s/w the lights on this will load the alternator down and take HP from the motor hence lowering idle. With ECI I would think it would compensate for that though by raising idle to preset figure. I know it does for aircon, my TP wagon used to drop when it kicked in but steadily rise back to norm.

its due to your voltage regulator on the alternator. its a sign the alternator is getting tired. no real problem tho mate, it'll still go fine and change good enough

Thanks for the suggestions but the car has only gotten worse and my mechanic is stuck. We were even told that if we fixed it, we should send a blanket letter to all local mechanics so they would know in the future. My car still surges and then stalls, but only after it has heated up, and the only thing we havent tried is to fix the distributor module. Ive seen 3 mechanics and 2 auto electricians. HELP..

I would love to it, but according to finance, it isnt mine yet.Haha. Anyway, after fixing the fuel filter, air filter, leads, sparks, distributor and module, pcv hose, battery terminals, idle speed control motor and throttle position sensor, and after a major service, the darn thing is still surging and stalling. I cant even pull into my driveway without it dying because of the low rpm. My mechanic has pretty much given up, but he's happy to pass on the bill for the work he's done.....Now some bright spark says it could be fuel. Should I give up and buy a Ford??

Generally mitsubishi's are ok, but with your case (as with many 1st gen magna onewrs) it is understandable that you thinking of going to ford. Best option for you is probably sell your car, get another car with less problem in it.

wtfs that ment to mean just cos there an older car then what u got doesnt mean its a pos ive had less problems then my m8s TF and all the costs of fixing his up was more then what i bough my car for :upyours:, i would rather push my car b4 even thinkin of buying a ford...............
if its an auto chances are that if uve replaced all thos things, also check all the reading to the ecu....it could even be the ecu

hey mate, take it easy. My parent had a Tn for 6 years, i loved that car, thats why i got a TF atm. What i meant to say is taht generally the 1st generation magna got a bit of problem with the auto transmission. what i meant to say is that since a lot of 1st gen owners encountered that problem they tend to stay away from magnas, and a lot mechanics doesnt have nice things to say about magnas also.
btw my tn magna's transmission also lost its 1st and 4 th gears, other than that its been a faultless car for 6 years of happy ownership.

I have owned three Fords and they never let me down but I live in Geelong and they tend to see older cars as better and bigger targets.Helps keep the oldies focused on where the road is. Anyway, Ive now had the fuel pump replaced and it didnt do a darned thing. This mechanic now says it must need another new Idle speed control motor for another $380. He says the one I have now must be faulty even if its new.I have the funny feeling its because I have breasts... :)

$380 is ****ing bs, $90 changeover for a throttle body. Anyway, are you in vic? i can give you the phone number of a GREAT mechanic who knows his magnas inside out. Great bloke too.
