well.. i would have liked to do same colour as my centre console but the paint aint as heat resistant as the paint i used. im gonna test the temperatures the cover reaches and give a metallic respray if theyre low enough...
the engine cover was from rpw actually
3.5L execs dont come with engine covers..

well best way to do it is the following:
1.Wash down what you need to paint
2.Wait till dry and wipe down with a cloth to remove buit up dust from drying.
3.Apply a primer coat.. Wait 10 minutes, if needed apply again
4.Apply paint coat and continue to reapply every 10-15 minutes till desired finish is reached
Tips when painting:
1. Shake can well
2. Hold the can about a foot away while painting and do not hold the can in a single spot
3. Use an open area (something i should have followed... I painted my sisters shoes blue by mistake)
4. Dont worry if coat doesnt look even. It will even out with other coats
5. Start and stop spraying away from object
6. Only apply thin coats each time
I think that covers everything.. Got a feeling ive forgotten 1-2 things which ill remember eventually.

well i think most people in here have used normal paint shop paint for their cars. I dont like using it though.. i use Tamiya spray paint for polycarbonate remote control car bodies. Its more expensive than normal paint but its a whole lot better quality.. Plus you dont need a primer for it. You get it from hobby shops. Get the one saying PS-## on the lid.
I found the paint is more heat resistant, dries quicker, paint is finer, nicer colours, tougher and grabs onto smoother surfaces better

Paint!! aahhh my speciality!
For plastics yes the Tamiya stuff is really good. Paint shop brands that are good are Squirts (White Knight), Krylon and theres a few others.
If you're painting any metal bits don't even bother going past Wattyl Killrust spray cans :)
I can give heaps more advice if anyone wants it.

The only thing I would add to Gamisou's list of what to does is wipe it down with a metho wash - this will get rid of the last dust and grease and grime.
I am intending to paint my under bonnet soon - but not the same colours as gamisou's and I have a different Idea for the engine cover
