Decided to change my fuel filter yesterday, as i hadn't done it since i got the car (40,000km's ago) and didnt know how long its been in there.....

needless to say i found out its been there for a pretty long time. I suspect its still the original from the factory.
I cut it open and almost died when i saw the state it was in..how any fuel was gettin throught there is beyond me.

A new filter element is wrapped up in a coil and has the same colour as an air filter (white/creamy colour), and ofcourse has no chunky bits in it.....
Car also runs alot better now, smoother revving and has more power throughout the whole revrange. :D

Its an easy job to do, just make sure you have a tray underneath the filter to catch the fuel that will run out of it when you disconnect the lines.
Probably the easiest place to start is the nut on the line to the engine, the output. Its about 14 or 15mm nut i think, just undo it, you wont be able to get the pipe off until you remove the filter. The hardest part is getting the supply line off. It has a dicky little clip on it that you have to squeeze in, and oull off. Firmly but gently, use a pair of pliers to grip the part of the clip that doesnt have the little tabs on it, squeeze a little and wiggle it off. After that, just unbolt the bracket that holds the filter to the car and voiala, you have taken your fuel filter off. Installation is the reverse of removal.
Also, if you are doing your rear bank of plugs, that takes about 45mins all up. Plenum off, plugs out, plugs in plenum on car started!
Hope that helps.

It's pretty straight forward, bout a 15-20minute job....except it took me close to an hour as the lines on mine were done up so friggin tight. I actually bent the top of the Filter trying to undo it.... lol
Just make sure u depreassurize your fuel lines before u do it. You'll have to disconnect your fuel pump (there's a connector under neath your fuel tank) and the run the engine till it wont run anymore, than crank the engine over for about 10-15seconds (but dont burn your starter motor out).

Bottom Fuel line (supply line) is a 14mm nut, and u'll need a 19mm to stop the filter from moving unless u want to bend the bracket that holds it....oops
The line that goes to the engine is a 19mm bolt, again use a 19mm to hold it.
And im pretty sure the bolts for the bracket are 12mm.
I took off the piping from thre MAS sensor to the TB, just to make it easier to get your arms in there.

Good work mate, should have got one with me at bursons that day as you would have saved a heap on it lol

One thing to note, use a proper pipe spanner if you can as I have seen many a rounded flange nut on the pipe.

It is not such a hard job, did a KE a while ago, the cam belt, fuel filter and rear plugs had done 178000 lm's not bad????

Penrite HPR30, highly recommended for 2.6l 4cyl.
