I hav a tr 92 magna exec and am havin probs with the auto box first up in the morning when u start it up and put it in to reverse u can sit there like it hasent clicked into gear then slowly it will start to move and also when u back out onto the road and click it fro rev to drive and u still rolling back slowly it bangs in to drive quite hard and driving it only slighty revs up between gear changes but when u floor it it changes very well
i hav done a gearbox change and also pulse sensors, rps, temp sensor replaced tcu and serviced the auto

Ive never had that problem with the auto like that, so i cant help ya there...
But i do know you can reset the ecu by just disconnecting the battery for a few hours, or overnight or something...
I think someone else had a problem with their auto sticking in Reverse once they put it into Drive.. had an accidect cause of it, and wasnt covered by insurance..
hope i helped

The only thing I can suggest is to check your transmission fluid level other than that I dont know. There is a trick to getting an accurate reading of the fluid level.
Whilst the motor is hot and the car is stationary, hold the brake and put the car into L for 5 secs or something and then N then R then D and so forth until you do them all for like 5 secs and then turn your car off and check.
I hope its something simple

he's right, Check your transmition level. Cars have a hard time chaning gears without any oil.

There's a few things that disturb me about what you said,
Firstly, do you wait for the car to warm up or do you go stright into R? TR's were known to stall when R on a cold morning before it's warmed up, raising the idle can fix this. Also try giving the car abit of acceleration when you put it into R, that should get it moving (it might struggle for a split second, this is normal)
Secondly, you say rolling back in R and then you shift to D and it hits hard? of course it will if you're still rolling backwards! You should use your brakes and come to a complete stop, then shift into D. I dunno if thats what you meant but it sounds  to me.
Thirdly, TR's weren't known for responsiveness of the pedal, you'll find most of the car major acceleration will happen in the 2nd half of the pedal, my gf's VH commodore is the complete opposite, revs hard early, but the difference between half throttle and full throttle is barely noticable  .

Hi,
Just encountered problems with the gearbox... Was shifting into D... but couldn't and it moved by itself to N.... tried shifting to L, then 2, then D and it became normal...
Happened since today... Can it be the transmission fluid problem??
Thanks

Sounds normal, if you dont move the gearstick into D properly it can move up to N, mine used to do it all the time until i realised i had to make sure it was in D properly. Some can become loose though, you can always take apart your centre console and tighten the bolt a little.

How do you take apart the centre console and tighten the bolt?? Mine, I can't move to D properly and it just shifts back to N... Each time have to be 'reset' by moving all the way down to L, then 2 then D in order to let the gear stick properly in D....
Thanks

Done...
Went to a mechanic and found out that the CAI was pressing on the gear controls.. once we lift up the CAI, the gear shifted smoothly... Intend to get a bracket to fit the CAI properly.. don't know why the previous owner didn't do that..... Mmm... :doubt:
Jes
I do have similar problems, in a TP. This is caused by the rear clutch misbehaving, involving a new gearbox. I'm just going to live with it.

I didn't realise you had a CAI, that would explain everything as when i did my CAI i had the exact same problem, atm i've just got cable ties holding the pipe up so that it doesn't get caught on the gear shifter.
