Hey that looks really neat, could you put on a purpose made sock (thin and breathing) for it in the anticipation of it getting dirty?

One thing looking at your pic, if the filter got very wet how would this impede air flow?

ill be buying a sock during the week. I'm not too worried about it getting dirty. Just means ill need to clean it more frequently. The sock also waterproofs the filter which will be handy.

If the filter did get really wet it would most likely have my car running like ****. Just going to avoid puddles and not tail gate in the rain

more importantly would it suck water into the engine.

car would stall way before sucking water into the engine.

it has too far to travel. there is at least 60cm of travel in a 3" pipe before it gets to the tb.

if it was turbo on the other hand.. it would suck and chop a goose in seconds!!!

yeah i doubt you could get water into the engine. The water would need to travel around 50cm upwards... My guess is its too heavy to travel up from the suction of the intake.

Actually John.. without flooding, water can still travel up to the TB... :)

That is where the AEM Bypass Valve comes into good use :)

Sorry to sound like the dumb-ass in this tread but where is your MAS sensor air flow computer thingi?

your mas sensor is the unit behind the stock airbox with a white sticker / tag on top, sorry don't have any pictures. It just relays information regarding airflow and temperature back to the ECU.

I have the K&N CAI kit which is simular to that of THsmokers design, while more expensive I have found very strong gains especially from 3000rpm. The good thing about this system is it stops the pod from sucking in hot under bonnet air when stationary (40c days at traffic lights are never good, especially when taking off hard at the lights).

Plus the system looks good and sounds terrific. Im about to have a Greddy EManaged installed and tuned to my mods so hopefully this will yield some decent results.

Probably behind his pod filter.

its about 10cm to the left of my tow hook.

Stil yet to run the car (doing a few extra things to the car) but the car does feel a little different the way it revs on idle. Ill give it a run later tonight. I realised one problem though. I'm gonna have a bit of trouble washing my car! Guess ill carry a plastic bag with me when i wash the car

I fitted my one last night. Ignore the cable ties. I just used them to start and rev the engine to make sure the MAS rewire is good. I need one more clamp. I would be in for a group buy filter sock. I am going to heat wrap the pipe and paint the runners, when I decide on a colour. Edit: No more cable ties.

It certainly does make the engine bay look tidier, and more business-like. Less of that plastic crap and those funny looking intake resonators.
That's a point, what do you do with the resonators? If you leave them off don't you have air-flow or noise issues ? Why are they there anyway

WaTCHME

resonators just redurce induction noise. induction noise is very loud with the cai. You can hear the pod clearly outisde and inside the car. When changing gears (especially 1-2nd) you get a tshhhh sound. Setup kinda looks and sounds like a turbo just minus the cost of one :P

Yeah engine bay looks tidier.. though where the original box was is now messier. Going to put some kinda metal sheet there in place to neaten the engine bay up.

Actually resonators do alot more than just reduce induction noise, they are actually set at the right acquistic frequency to aid air flow. Without getting all jibberish on you they basically create sound waves which help move the air into the chambers faster. You will notice if you remove your resonators from your stock induction setup you will loose a good chuck of your bottom end and smoothness in power delivery.

Blake,

So any idea what removing them will do for a car with a pod, plus exhaust? (opposed to stocko ride?)
