Hey All,

Im trying to remove my auto shifter cable so i can get the manual ones in, i have undone the pin at the shifter end, and i have undone it where it goes through the floor, i have undone the bracket behind the crossmember and i have undone it at the transaxle end of things. Now, when i go to pull it out, the bit that gets bolted into the floor, gets stuck between the firewall and the crossmember, anybody had any success removing these pricks of things? I cant cut it because i need it in the other car.

Thanks,
AF

Hey Ryan,
If I remember correctly, we gave up and cut the cable in the middle. Doesn't help much if you want to use it again.. It's a curious thing that the manual and auto cables run through totally different pathways... I think one advantage of cutting the cable was that the end of it was used to block the hole left in the bodywork...
A dremel may be the solution to the problem... if it don't fit, make a bigger hole.

see how you go,

Duncan

lol Duncan, i noticed where you cut the other one off, thats why i wasnt surprised when i couldnt get it out.

TM-SE-RED - Sorry mate, they aint the same thing, the auto cable is a single and the manual is two, auto runs through the floor and the manual through the firewall. I suspect im either going to hafta remove the crossmember, not something i want to do!!, or dremel its out.

Thanks for ideas guys.

I think, from memory, that I was able to get mine out without cutting it, though this was over eight months ago.. There should be an angle that you'll be able to remove it - or just drop the cross member a few MM.. Jack-stands and a torch are your friends :)

Yeah, i might drop it down a few mm and see if i can get it out then.

Ok, for those interested to know how i did it, i got a lever and levered the crossmember down, and pulled the transaxle end of the cable through, its really easy once you have found a suitable place to lever from!!
