I scrounged a set of the Magna Sports mags for my Solara, and wanted them sprayed the Pewter colour to match the lower panels of the car. As I live right near the water I wanted them painted on BOTH sides as well as alloys here in Rodd Point tend to pitt badly on the unpainted side in just a year or so. Quotes came in between $125 and $150 per wheel (both sides remember) via wheelhouses and tyre places, but I ended up going with a connection of a friend who is a spray painter and who does small jobs from home. His price was $100 each and they came up just spectacular!
His name is Anthony and he's keen to do work for any club members with small paint jobs that need doing - PM me if you're interested for his phone numbers.
Now I just got to get a deal on Tyres!

wont be for a while...need to get rid of rust first!

Okay I will - I'm really out of date with tyres so I don't know even what to go for - IE spring for Pirellis or stick to some of the newer Bridgestones. MeH - its hard!

I'm going to get some quotes to do a same colour re-spray on mine mid next year (maybe earlier) and then get this guy to gimme a comparo price. I'll certainly post here re that at the time. I MAY also change some of the colour on mine - not fully decided.
What he seems to be very ameniable to re full resprays and cost - he says he can drag the costs down a LOT if you (we) do our own disassembly before it goes to him -- meaning pulling doors down (trims and handles) removing seals, removing the plastic aero bits under the doors, removing mirrors, removing badges and lights, removing bumper covers and or getting O'Brien's mobile to pull the screeens. If you're willing to do this sort of work yourself - which may also mean trucking the car to him as it won't be road legal without lights - you can get closer to half the expected retail cost of a full respray. Something to consider.

are those 'sports' rims or vrx series 1 rims? or are they the same?

Nice job, but that was an expensive pain tjob, you could have them powdercoated for the same price and for all 4 wheels.

Not from what I was quoted - powder coating on alloy tends to be dearer than spraying. If you know otherwise please point out a source.
Gerard these came off 2 Seperate 'Sports' cars - one Rim was off Fordy's, 4 via a Queensland wheel dealer. I'm pretty sure the VRX uses a different pattern.

Well I got a bit sidetracked after these rims were done - spending money on suspension and brakes etc instead of tyres - but I finally got the wheels on with a new set of Pirelli P6 tyres this weekend. The Pic doesn't do it justice - they look very classy in real life with the colour coded to the silver on the Solara - I'm chuffed with the result!

I'd prefer the all blue (not 2 tone) look :P Would obviously looks heaps better tho when lowered :D

Yeah see that's the thing - I think the solid colour, when coloured sills etc are also part of the picture, make the Magna look short and dumpy. Hence I was specifically attracted to the Solara with its two-tone. (Well that and then of course I was too stupid at the time I was looking to buy to know that there was actually something called a Magna Sport).
She'll get an inch lower later in the year - have some VRX springs for her and will fit those with some Konis when funds allow - probably August.

i reckon the sports wagon kit in silver (including wheel arches) would actually make the 2-tone look really good

Hey not bad! Ages ago I saw this car posted somewhere and kept the pic - same sort of thing though I suspect this one started as a VRX (do VRXs have chrome around the windows?).
What I can't do is seriously lower the car - its just not what I want to do and it would be completely impractical where I live - there are speedbumps everywhere here. But still, I'm probably a year away from affording a re-spray so plenty of time to mull it over.
EDIT: oh cool - my donating thumb turned up!

thats not a VRX, no VRX rear bar (well half bar) and its a TH, VRX's didnt come out til TJ's
a VRX kit on your solara will make u look closer to the ground too :) and abit lower, but hey what insurane are u with? im sure u could get away with kings lows (40mm drop) with the wheel arches would look prettygood :)

I thought it was a fake VRX - still it looks good. As I said above - I have the springs already to go 30mm lower - that's it for me thanks.

Should have shown some interest when I was interested in ditching my sports rims. They still have 3 week old Bridgestone Potenza GIII tyres on them. I know this doesnt help, but everyone LOVES to hear about what they could have had now that they cant have it.

Oh this post is waay old mate - I bought my rims last year and last month finally shed them with New Release Pirelli P6s and I did very well on the price there - 215/60 R16 95Vs fitted and balanced with stick on weights for $169.00 each. Yeah otherwise would have bid on yours...
