after reading the Strathfied catalog and running out to buy 2 subs and a box(all for $230, not a bad deal, i'm not going to name the name of the subs because i don't care if S**Y is a crap brand)

after getting home i relised(dam me and my impulse buying  ) that i'm going to need an amp to run them(brain just wasn't functioning at the time).

I have now sorted that out(getting a 4ch amp on thurs) but what i want to know is how do you run two amps together as i'm probably going to get a 2ch amp later down the line to run the inside speakers.

also, how hard is it to install an amp(s) into a TR?
how long will it take to install?(i'm looking to put them in on the weekend but i have to work in the arvo so i need the car running by then).

thanks all

Its easy, power, earth, remote, rca`s, subs. just do it right, dont cut corners and start being bodgey..

yea like the ego said. easy.

If you wanna run two amps, Use a decent gauge power cable now and when you get the other amp you can just tap the power from that one or get another power cable coming from your battery..

Id go with the first option. Doesnt sound like your gonna be installing a ridiculous amount of audio gear, so a 4 gauge wire is good enough to get to your boot (or wherever) then run an 8g wire off that one to connect to the amps..

As for installing the amps in your TR, depends on where u wanna put the amps. Id suggest just in the boot, on the side put in MDF or something behind the carpet and bolt the amp/s onto that. If u wanna go under your seat, thats a bit trickier, youll need to remove the seats and carpet, put mdf where u want the amp to sit then bolt on the amp on top of the carpet. simple.

Youll probably be asking where u can run the power cable to get past the firewall, i slipped it down through the side of the front/right quarter panel. But everyone else seemed to find a grommet somewhere, i think behind the glove box is where people find a good one. so try that. Then just hide the wire neatly under the carpet all the way to the boot from there.

You should be able to get it all done under 2hrs if this is your first time. Once you get the hang of it and know how the wiring works youll be able to do sh*t like this in under 20 minutes. Its just a matter of taking the seats out where needed and finding where you want to run the wire etc.
Even if you dont finish, u can still use the car.

Yea and sony are a not so popular brand for speakers and subs, but bass is bass.. are they 12"?? if so, that is a good price, whatever the brand.

have fun

not bad man. ive found 10"s to have a nice kick to the bass.

WHen i had 2 10" kicker comps it was sweet for rap/rnb kinda music. Better then the 3 12"s i have now

nice work :D

what i want to know is how do you run two amps together as i'm probably going to get a 2ch amp later down the line to run the inside speakers.

You'll want to buy a distributor block (from jb strathfield etc) This can split your power cable safely, (power cable goes in, two power cables can come out. Then you just run each of these to your amp's positive/battery terminal. You can split your remote lead just by running from the headunit to the remote terminal on the first amp, then from that terminal to the remote terminal on the second amp. (it doesnt carry a big load, just a 12v signal really.)

Ground both amps to a common ground in your boot. (or wherever you mount them) make sure the ground makes good contact with metal (sand any paint etc back) the ground gauge should be as big if not bigger than your power lead, and also make it is as short as possible. If you drill, make sure you are aware of the petrol tank etc.

Mount the amp(s) in the boot, securely. If you want just use a big piece of mdf to secure them(it) to. And screw it down using self tappers etc...
Or you have many other options of making it purrtty, but by the looks you're just after functionality.

Make sure you fuse your power wire close to the battery. otherwise u could start a fire etc.
Come through the firewall through a grommet etc.
Use cable ties, electrical tape, etc...
Dont run power lines alongside to rca's or speaker wires to reduce interference

That should get you started
