View Full Version : TJ sports body kit obsolete
Hey, I went to the dealer yesterday cos my car was booked in for the recall, I talked to the guy at the parts counter about the magna sports body kit. He didnt seem to know what he was talking about, cos i first asked if the wagon sports body kit fitted the sedan and he said no. Now Iam sure ive read on these forums, some of the guys on here have said they have got the sports wagon body kit on and its different to the sedan kit and that it fits straight on.
To complicate things even more, he said they must be the same kit cos there was only one product listing for a sports body kit
Now for the final crunch and the reason for this thread, he quoted me $708 unpainted and no rear spoiler (didnt want one anyway) and he said I'd better order one soon cos there weren't any here in adelaide, only sydney had some and there was a note or somthing on the screen he was reading from saying the part was now obsolete meaning Mitsi's isnt making them anymore?
Dont want to keep  but does this price sound right and can someone quote a part number for the wagon sports kit and has anyone else heard this news?

Not sure about the kit being obselete, but I can tell you there are definitely two separate kits - Sports body kit for sedans and Sports body kit for wagons.
And the price should be between about $650 and $750 complete (without boot spoiler).

the difference between sedan and wagon body kits is the rear pods only. front lower lip and side bars are same.
price is around $650 + (unpainted) depending on which dealer you go to as most of them got different prices.
As for rear spoiler i dont think it was part of the kit ever. (may be for wagon it was included but not for sedans).

I was at the parts section of an Adelaide Mitsu dealer last Saturday and they actually had proper Mitsu colour brochures for the sports body kit sitting on the counter. It was the first time I'd seen a separate brochure for the body kit, and it indicated kits for both sedans and wagons (no rear spoiler). From that, I'd suggest they're still available.

And if the kit really was obsolete, what are Mitsu going to say to people who smash their Magna Sports Wagons - that is, the people who have the kit factory fitted - "Sorry we can't put the kit back on"?
And it would make no sense to keep making the kit as spare parts panels and no longer off the shelf as a body kit would it.
Part Number for the Sports SEDAN kit should be MR922600.

i got quoted $1650 for a VRX kit, minus the spoiler, fitted and painted..
is that good, or am i being stooged ?
Thats a good point, how could they make a part like the sports kit on a model only a few years old obsolete. Like i said the guy at the counter didnt seem like he really knew what he was talking about
While we are talking about kits, is it possible to get the rally art kit without having a rally art? I mean do they need to see proof that you actually own a magna rally art before selling parts to you?
Any one got a part number for the sports wagon body kit?
Oops, just saw the part number for the sedan....

I've got the part number for the sedan kit above in another post. Don't know what the wagon kit part number is though.
Easiest way to get a Ralliart spoiler is do what I did - get the legs extended from a non-genuine lancer wing - you can barely tell the difference. But the rest of the kit isn't so easy
Thanks for the tip but im thinking of going the no spoiler option. May even call a different dealership and speak to them.
fencer: what dealership were you at, I went to the one on the corner of daws and south roads.

Agostino Mitsubishi, Main North Road, Nailsworth. They've been good for other stuff on my car to date.
I must admit i didnt see the coloured brochure u were talking about, nor had a good look around. Will hopefully ring another dealer when i get time and find out some more info......

Dont think the front spoiler would fit properly due to the different front bar design.
The rest of the kit should though.

Try to go to the Spare Parts Centre, not the Dealership.
You won't be able to get the Ralliart parts easily, you have to own a Ralliart (Apparently you can't just waltz in there with a VIN number either)

Could you do me a HUGE favour, could you please PM me exactly what you did? i'll be looking at putting a ralli art rear wing on my car and if its possible to easily mod an evo 6 wing (cuz they are way more easier to come accross) i'll do that :D.

I bought my sports body kit a couple of months ago and paid around $700 for it, so sounds right.
So.....
The only difference between the sedan and wagon body kits is the rear pods? Correct?
Do the wheel arch things come with the sedan kit?
Any one in adelaide bought the kit and had it painted and if so where did they get it painted and for roughly how much so i know wat to budget.

Yes, both sedan and wagon versions are a 9 piece kit:
4x wheel arch flares
2x side skirts
2x rear pods
1x front lip
And the rear pods are the only difference between the sedan and wagon.
