View Full Version : Problem, help please?
Lately my car has been playing up i think only when its cold or just turned on. If i accelerate sometimes it sought of stops or pauses and then kicks in after a second or to. Ive got my foot down but the revs arent going up, its like the car just gets blocked. Any help, almost caused me an accident the other day.

or simply just let your engine warm up before you drive it.
ok 1996, te 3l Manual, 124 000 kms
Ive never had the problem before so i am not gonna just accept it and wait for the car to warm up.
Its not a gear changing problem as it occurs in gear usually at the start of the gear

I had this exact same problem ... it occurs about 1-2 minutes after starting to drive, especially if you drive away without letting the car idle for a bit.
It only happens at bloody intersections too ... e.g after braking, stopped and waiting and then when you start to pull off the car "hesistates" for about 2-4 seconds then clears. It only happens on cold mornings. It only ever occurs once, and after that the car is flawless.
I am glad someone else has the problem too ... I thought I was going mad.
It hasn't happened since the turbos have been put on ... but thats a drastic fix.

could be fuel pressure regulator or even youve got a dirty panel filter.

Allot of us have had that problem i took my car to mitsu on Wednesday cos of it. If u have high flow filter get rid of it. And do you have a Exhaust system on it? If you do ask were ever you got it what they did with the oxygen sensor on the exhaust system.. It’s a real bad problem i have 1998 TF sports my mate has a 1998 tf executive. there is a thread about dead sports between 2000 2500 revs have a good read.
This problem will only get worse!!!!!!

I just have a standard air filter but my muffler is a supercat. How much would i be looking at to get it fixed.

I have had two separate problems. First one read here (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12089) but you say the engine hesitates/misfires, rather than it being a flat spot, so:
Have you put any octane booster / fuel system cleaner / injector cleaner in your fuel tank?
The engines and their management DO NOT LIKE EATING THIS STUFF!
I cannot stress this point highly enough!
Symptoms are misfires or hestiatation from the engine with hard acceleration from standstill or low in the rev range (1000-2000 RPM). It should jerk you around, not just a smooth lack of power like the Airfilter problem. Fuel economy goes downhill badly as well - you almost need a Shell tanker to follow you around.
It seems the engine management advances timing or something similar when you put any of the above substances in your tank, but damages the distributor when it does so. Replacing it is the only fix. I went through spark plug replacements and all sorts of things before we nabbed the problem.
I have been through 2 distributors & lead sets after I have put injector cleaner in my fuel tank. If you have, and the engine coughs and splutters (like not getting any spark) take it to your nearest dealership and get a new distributor and leads put in. Should cost under $200, but as always - get a quote :)
(additional) freeing up restrictions in both inlet and exhaust sides of the engine will almost always result in worse low end torque but better top end power (massive generalisation, I know, but basically true)
DO NOT put injector cleaner or octane booster in your magna. Get the injectors taken out and ultrasonically cleaned.

A high flow filter will not cause this problem, unless you try and put a round pod on there or something like that. as for the exhaust system, the ego sensor will only be a problem of you have had extractors fitted and even then it shouldint be a big deal,
trust me dude, launceston mitsu are not the most knowledgable people when it comes to magnas. and once you mod it (same as most launceston motor group places) they blame that for everything, mate of mine bought a $17k car from mazda, 2 weeks later blew the gearbox ( he wasnt driving it real hard either) mazda decided to blame it on a boost/vacum gauge we installed in the car, funny thing is, its an electronically controlled transmission with no vacum lines going into it

Throttle Position Sensor sometimes as it could be on its way out and then the computer adjusts to the new position that works
