yeh weight is all that matters, my towbar is rated at 1.5 tonnes. I'm guessing yours would be similar. The engine shouldn't have any trouble towing it, as long as you arn't planning on going up hill in a straight line for 10 minutes :).

the verada can toe its own weight so i doubt a speed boat will cause any hassels

You wont have any troubles at all towing it. My grandparents towed a caravan accross australia in a 94 KS Verada 3.0L. They fitted a tranny cooler to be safe for the long trip but you wont have a problem.
Remember to keep the speed boats engine running to give you extra power :bowrofl: :bowrofl: :bowrofl:
Thanks for the reply's the trips ill will be doin wit the boat will only be 2 to 4 hours nothing to big. just wasnt sure cause the verada was a big change from the falcon i used to drive

You can only legally tow 3/4 of the car's mass though (or thereabouts). So if you dont get pinged you'll be fine.
My old man's KR towed my car on a car trailer with no problems.
kinda on the subject...
does anyone here use their magna to launch a boat? do you have any issues with traction being front wheel drive??
We have recently purchased a little dingy, its probly light enought to carry if off the trailer with a few blokes but if im feeling lazy im tempted to lauch it like normal... but I dont wanna get stuck, or rip half the tread off my 17's strugling for traction on the rough concrete...
I've seen some cars such as commo's or falcons have trouble in the past, but they were with sizeable boats...
thoughts?? I guess it depends on tide ect ect on the day...

Guarenteed that you wont have any problems towing a boat. In my 4 cyl wagon I towed my TR sedan - 1270kg on the back of a car trailer - 850 kg. 2120kg total mass and that was from the Sunshine Coast to the other side of Brisbane.
You would have no problem whatsoever in the 3 litre with a much lighter payload.
As for FWD's launching boats? I've seen it be done with a new Camry Sportivo at a boat ramp up here. Mind you there wasnt too much gradient. The boat wasnt a tinny either it was a bit bigger but not too big. They just took it real easy in the auto. I only saw it drop the boat off too not pick it up so I would assume that they had done it before.
Hope this helps.
cheers mate, i guess theres really no answer hey.... just looking for opinions...
the boat ramp we use is real rough so i think ill stay clear of it unless i HAVE to....

Really? Interesting. I wonder why I have a 1500kg rated towbar on my car.

I know that you can't tow your own car's weight, I'm pretty sure it works out to be something like 75% of the car's mass. I'll look it up on the RTA site to find out for sure...
Taken from: http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/downloads/towmay02.pdf
The loaded mass of the trailer must not exceed:
? the capacity of the towing attachment (the towbar)
or
? the maximum laden mass specified by the
Authority for the towed vehicle (the trailer) or
? the maximum towing mass specified by the
manufacturer of the towing vehicle.
Where the manufacturer of the towing vehicle has
not specified the maximum towing mass, the
following maximum towing mass applies:
? one and a half times the unladen mass of the
towing vehicle, provided the towed vehicle is fitted
with a braking system that is working properly or
? the unladen mass of the towing vehicle in
any other case.
Towing vehicles with a GVM not exceeding 4.5
tonnes which have a manufacturer's GCM (gross
combination mass) rating of more than 4.5 tonnes
may tow in accordance with the above requirements.
Enquiries about modified vehicles used for towing
should be referred to RTA Technical Enquiries.
(see overleaf)
Ah well..looks like I heard wrong, or old info. At least we all know now anyway ;)

well with a little dingy i dont think u will hav many problems but i remember one day my mate decided to tow his boat with his V6 manual magna and it towed it fine, but it did get very very stuck on hte boat ramp pulling it out, but that was bigger than a dingy. another time i saw a auto magna get stuck but that was also with a fairly bigger boat.
so i guess just try it and make sure someone is there to tow u out if u need it :D

ok lets get things into prospective ,
a standard fiberglass speed boat with an inboard motor on a tandam trailer would weigh about 1.5 tonne , i do not know of a tow bar for a second gen that has a towing capacity
of more than 1.2 , the main thing is yes you could tow it , the towing capacity for the vehicle is 1.2 tonne with brakes , if you towed any more than that you would not be covered by your insurance , i have seen some front wheel drives on boat ramps trying to pull boats out of the water that weigh no more than 1 tonne and they have had to have some one sit on the bonnet trying to get traction , i have a ford as well as my verada and i have a boat that weighs 800 kilo before i load it up and i would not try to pull my boat out of the water loaded with the verada
hope this helps

yeh mate, she'll tow it. my old mans old verada (kr??) (it had the 2.6 in it, auto) towed a trailer with about 1.5 tonne on it no probs, went up a steep driveway with the trailer on and a little wheel spin but u just gotta know how to drive it. i know that the 3.5L auto will tow 2.4 tonne..... huge ass safe on the back of a 4 wheeler trailer.. no probs, mind you the safe did lift the back of the car up when we had it on the end of the trailer.....
yeh just a bit worried about going on the boat ramp whats the worst thtat could happen though ?

worst thing that could happn is you start slipping and thers to much weight on the boat and you would have to get towed out, the even wors thing is if u a nob and decided to give it ****loads of stick you could end up drifting sideways off the ramp or end up in the water
