hey guys
i got an old bass vr alpine sub (sws 3049) and am about to build a box for it.
I was wondering how critical the size of the box is, can an incorrect size damage the speaker at all and how will it affect sound quality? In the specifications off the alpine site it says 4.34 cu ft. this works out to be 50 x 50 x 50 cm or there abouts. This seems quite large and it would take up a lot of valuable boot space any advice would be greatly appreciated.

usually the larger the better, a bigger box or smaller box wont damage your gear, Although generally speaking it's harder to hear a woofer distorting in ported boxes. So in that respect it can do damage, but if you set your gains right you won't do any harm.

If you buy a decent new sub you have to run it in for a while, This usually just means playing it at low volume for several hours before you crank it. This will also avoid damage to ur gear.

Go with recommendations if you can, but if it's impractical a smaller box will still produce good results.

Sealed = predictable, good sq, more power required to run
Ported = Loud, good spl, more efficient
