View Full Version : How to fix air-con switch light?
Howdy
I know some of u 3rd gen ppl out there have problems with the aircon (on/off) swith and/or the rear window demister switch especially after taking apar the dash. For some reason, my air-con green LED and the white snowflake don't light up anymore. Everything else, including the air-con work fine tho..
So, its the holidays, and I think I might get around to fixing it......
Anyhow's anybody thought of a way to fix this? I look on the back of it, wiring loom seems happy, so I guess its the bulbs.....maybe? Neybody know how to replace/fix them?

Mine have been fine with about 6 removals of the dash for audio purposes, but there are some fairly delicate bulbs in there.
Rip the Radio/aircon [panel out, replace a bulb and re-connect the leads. Turn your lights on and check it works before putting it all back together.
Or you could just replace the lot with Blue LED's.....
Hi, im back again. seeing as though i am sort of upgrading my stereo atm, i might as well fix this problem. OK, anybody!!!
The green LED and the white snowflake don't light up, yet the air-con still turns on, heellp me replace the bulbs in the button please!

Yeah I had the same problem, when I took it apart it was still getting power with the tester but no light up, so I think the lights is stuffed. I would just replace the bulbs.

I'm guessing they're still getting power, but the bulbs are stuffed. How to u actually go abotu changing the bulbs inside the button? Take apart the button..etc? how do u take it apart?

The globes in the a/c switches are not sold as a seperate part, the switch is a sealed unit. They use the same switch in the CE Lancer. You need to buy a new switch, should be replaced under warranty if you vehicle is still in. Otherwise i think cost bout $50.00.

so can i like, push the whole switch out from the whole air con controller (big piece with the dials, buttons and stuff on it) and just go to the wreckers and grab a new one, and plug it in? I could probably get one out of a mirage/lancer since they're the same hey
50 bucks!!!!!
oh thank god someone's replied! see, thread mining can sometimes be helpful

Yeah, worth double checking the price, but the Lancer/Mirage are the same. My Mum ( ) has had hers replaced under warranty 3 times. Not really sure how the switch comes out though.
yeh, they must be real dodgey or something. its always either that button, or the rear window demister button that always dies....
yeah, i'll rip my dash apart for the 300th time sometime sooon to check

Hey, I have the same problem in my TF, thought about replacing them. Called local Mitsubishi dealer and got told that they cost $125 each, so $250 all up. Yeah right. Also like to find out how to replace the bulb, and were do you get bulbs as small as those. They are really tiny.

Nearly everything can be taken apart & fixed, if you have the time & patience.
Its just economically unviable for the dealers & spares desk to do it.
... where do you get bulbs as small as those. They are really tiny.
What actual physical size are they? Connection?
fyi Dick Smith sells 12V "grain of rice" lightbulbs on leads, or some tiny edison screw bulbs too. Many other industrial sizes available from specialist suppliers - Mitsubishi won't have invented their own custom fitting.
Or with some ingenuity, LEDs are a good retrofit if you know what you're doing.

I was quoted $90 for supply only of the demister button
OMG! OH DEAR GOD!!!!! thats insane!
i think i'll attempt to fix it myself, or just pray i get lucky at the wreckers one day.
i'd hate it if i broke the button while taking it apart. I can't live without air-con in this blistering weather these days

usually when the aircons on i know its on so dont really need the light to remind me.. the aircon light in my gf's magna doesnt work, but as long as the aircon itself works it doesnt need fixing.. especially for that price

Good for some. I'm a shiftworker and find myself driving in the dark more than the day. It's not so much the light that tells me wether the air con or demister are on or not, but more the glow that shows me where the button is at ungodly hours of the morning.
