Hi :)

First time posting here, however I hope to be a frequent visitor from here on in :)

I've got a 1985 Magna Elite, with the digital dash. Recently, the digital dash lighting broke; that is to say that everything still lights up with the headlights on, except for the speedometer and the fuel gauge. I'm pretty sure that it's a simple globe that needs replacing, which is easy enough* , but the problem I'm having is getting access to the area behind the speedo in order to fix said globe. I've tried pushing, pulling, prying, praying and the like to no avail - I can barely budge the housing, let alone get the dash itself out.

If someone could let me know which screws need to be removed, or what voodoo I need to do in order to get the dash to work it would be greatly appreciated :)

*I know that replacing a globe is easy enough, because I just replaced the gearshift globe that died back in 2003

right, i dont have a digital dash but this *should* work.

Know where your warning lights are? the low oil pressure, alternator etc, well to the very left and right of them are these things that look like little vents? Gently remove them (with a flat head screwdriver or something), there are 2 screws behind them, undo the screws and then you can move the black surrounds.

Now you will see probably 4 screws, one in each corner of the instrument cluster, kinda around the outsides, take them out and out your dash will come out. On the back you will see many black plugs, these are light globes, twist and pull the busted ones out.

Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

The light globe location is the main housing, to the left of the "brick". Most likely the bottom one of the two together.

How do I know? Blew that one too.

Brilliant, that worked fine; I just removed the LED from the seatbelt notifier and swapped it around up to the speedo and everything runs smoothly :)

Thanks for your prompt response, now all I have to do is get new tyres (getting that done tomorrow) and get the AC regassed (not sure how much thats worth) and I'll be set :)

Around $88-$100 for regassing. Look in the local rag.
