I want to buy a dvd player ond screen for my car but have the stabdard verada stacker in there at the moment which is bigger than a standard head unit. Is there anyway i can keep this connected anbd stil play my cd's through that but when i wanna play a dvd or something have it coming through the sams speakers,

Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question but can i just cut into the wires going to the speakers with the dvd player?

if yur cd player as AUX input then u hook yur dvd player up that way. other wise i dunno if it would be wise to just splice yur currnt speaker wires

if you buy an axis dvd player it *might* fit ... it's smaller than a standard headunit in height but not in width so you can still mount it in with the stocko headunit ... if your headunit does'nt have any aux rca's you'll have to wire up a fm modulator and it just plays through your radio via fm funny enough ... if you want any pics of the headunit just message me on msn .. autocat@hotmail.com and i'll send you what i have ... i installed a indash dvd player and a 10.4" roofmount screen

where did you want to mount the screen. Is it possible to put the screen somwhere where you don't have to remove the verada head unit. You can run the sound through an FM modulator thingy, you can buy these from Jaycar. Just you get radio quality feed back.

I dont think the standard units have an aux in, so you have a few choices. You can buy an fm modulator, this plugs in to your antenna lead, and has two rca's as input. Then everytime you want to listen to the dvd just tune it to the appropriate station. Otherwise you'll have to buy a dodgy tape deck piece of crap.

Does ur headunit have a 3.5 jack aux in in the front?

You can mount the player in ur glove box, or under your seat etc. or in your boot if you want. And you can mount the screen anywhere...

Roof mounted, dashmounted (will be hard for you if you want to keep ur headunit), visor mounted, or just bolt it straight on to ur dash.

the fm modulator plugs into your antenna lead ?

the one i have all you do is wire it up to accessories power then it has rca's that come outof it plug into the aux in on the box that comes with the screen and you just tune it into your stereo ... was easy as pie to do and you can leave it as a normal station on your radio by pressing the 1-6 buttons to lock it in so then you dont have to tune it in all the time ... the player i got i think is 8mm thinner than a standard unit otherwise you can do like i am going to do and put in a 10 stack dvd stacker to make things easier again ... i have the dvd player and cd player mounted in my dash ... just take the pocket out and away you go ... you wont loose your cd player ... it's easier to have both that way when there's people sitting in the back watching a movie via the infared headsets you can still crank out the tunes

easy ... but expensive ... if you want the thinner dvd player i will sell you mine cheap as i am upgrading to a new player sometime this month ... player i have retails for $299 and is about 3 months old so if you want just make an offer :)

The ones that plug straight in a far better quality imho. As it is actually making direct contact with the antenna lead. Many stackers do this as well.

If you want a modulator that outputs its own frequency over the air, these need to be powerful if you want a quality signal that isnt affected by interference etc.

My stacker currently goes through an fm modulator straight into the aerial and sounds awesome.

Modulators that plug into your aerial can be bought from jb for $80-$90

i guess it all just comes down to how many dollars you want to spend ... but i think for best sound would be to bypass the fm modulator all together and just get a stereo with aux and plug in straight into that

I was thinking about getting a new deck but a mate rekons there is no way i would get one the same size and would look **** in its spot thats what i think the FM modulator might be the way to go.

All aftermarket head units are a standard size, din or double din. You can buy double din units from most outlets, but these are either really pox cheap crap, or really expensive with tape, md, cd in one... but why dont u just buy a din head unit??? You can fill the hole in with the dvd player, or just a tissue box holder/cd holders...

ahh ok obviously my mate has no idea what he's talking about then (not that i do) so a cd player head unit with thosew aux plugs and a dvd unit sounds like the best way to go from what your saying they both will fit yeah?

Hmmm, maybe i better save up a bit more to get it all done properly with good quality stuff.

Thanks for your help

Yeh but 'some' dvd units will not fit, and are specifically designed to be mounted in ur glovebox etc, but the vast majority are standard sizes.

I'd save up some bucks do the audio thing first.
If you dont want to go nuts, do it in this order, that way each time you are buying something else you are upgrading.
1 - Headunit, with aux input in the back
2 - Front splits - off head unit
3 - amp / subs - pref 4 channel amp, to run front splits and sub
4 - dvd / screen etc

Good luck

If you buy a dvd player it should have AUX out or RCA out, and you could just lead that to an amp that powers your speakers, and you could even split the rca cable have the headunit lead to the amp as well. Could use an RCA switchboard. Just a suggestion :).

I recommend you go to newcastle pro sound and talk to one of the guys there and see what they can set you up with to meet your needs etc. Myself and a few mates have been there plenty of times and have always found them very helpful in tight spots.
