g'day, just curious. i know this would be a waste of time but is there a possible way to give a sub such a punding that it miss adventures and either one, starts smoking or 2 just destroys its self.... if there was a way how would i do this??

Put 240V across it :bowrofl:

sure can, it's called clipping the input side of your amplifier.
If you know what a sine wave looks like, clipping is when the volume is up so loud that the input wave is 'clipped' at the top and bottom of the waveform. This is DC electrical current, not AC (which audio is supposed to be...)
DC current burns out the voice coils in your subs. If your sub sounded really horrible (muddy bass, wierd noises that sounds like the vibration is casuing a part in the speaker to hit something else, and then smell / see that horrible burning electronics smoke, you have just fried your sub. You can smell it BAD, it rates up there with smelling a dead body that has festered in 40 degree temps for a few days (i have smelled both unfortunately!)
It's usually caused by small sub amp rated at RMS watts lower then the sub(s), and caning it hard. You don't often see an amp with a larger wattage fry a smaller sub(s).
What are your system specs (head unit, wiring (power cables especially), amp(s) and
sub(s)?????)

lol, its not my system, i just wanna blow the fcuk out of some elcheapo subs.... i was thinking of putting a chicken on it or something and cranking it or setting fire to the middle of the sub with lighter fluid then cranking it...i just wanna do something stupid and funny

240V will do the trick...... nicely. You will blow fuses as well, so be ready for that (and mean in your house fusebox). Try and run it about 50m from anything that could get damaged. It more than likely could explode in some way.
240V is dangerous stuff..... please make sure the supply is isolated (ie extension lead not plugged into socket) and you have another switch that you can throw to 'set it off' (don't believe I just said that - AFP wil be after me now... whoops!)
Remember if it is a dual voice coil to wire it in series for more heat
A chicken? that's getting a little kinky, don't you think?? :bowrofl:
You are an idiot. I like that.
And we want pictures.

:bowrofl: :bowrofl: :bowrofl: :bowrofl: sounds like something for NYE i just wanna see the chiken get bounced around like crazy lol
nahh, so i fi plug like lets sat a 15W speaker into a 500w monoblock amp... the speaker will be normal??

HAHAHA, sounds like ****loads of fun. My advice is do 'em all! Start with the chicken, then the hole, then the fire and then voltage up the baby and blow it to the ****house. I wanna see some video footage of this chicken bouncing up and down haha.

Put 240V across it :bowrofl:
U may be surprised to hear that with some subs... Im talking crazy power handling subs, you can do this.
I know of Cerwin Vega Strokers that have been hooked up to 240v. Of course providing 2400 watts @ 50hz. *** loud. But some nice clean test tunes : )
Conversely, If you play amps with 50Hz test tunes you can hook up household equipment across the speaker channels.
***DO NOT TRY THIS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!!!***
Peace (play safe :))

if you have a cerwin vega stroker you want to do this to, i'll take it off your hands...

that is absolutely nuts!!! me wants.... every one start placing bets now, how long do you think the sub will last with
1) the chicken strapped to it (i think the question here is how long will the chicken last??)
2) the sub on fire
3) 240V across it
4) with 100 firecrackers straped to it
5) small rated sub with a huge rated amp
i think none will go more than 2 mins....

And no, a 15W speaker with a 500w monoblock wouldn't be okay.
You are more likely to blow a 300w sub with a 200w amp than a 200w sub with a 300w amp.
I understand why, but cant put it into words. Maybe someone else can

hahaha i wanna know where your getting all this equipment to blow up in the first place.
that said i think 5 minutes with the chicken, i have this image of some guy riding the mechanical bull and if strapped on they can last awhile, take it easy, hahaha
Sorry to put a dampener on the thread. :(
But guys, as someone who does a lot of destructive testing of automotive audio products can I advise that unless you know exactly what you're doing, do not play with power and electrical goods for sheer entertainment and fun.
I have seen too many young (and old) people burnt, maimed or killed when harmless experimenting has gone terribly wrong. :(

Yeah don't do it... Gets very dangerous. If you have any amps on the back of your wheels I would install a fire extinguisher as well.
But water helps prolong the life of a sub by cooling the coils... You could get a minute out of it :) I hear water and electricity don't mix though.
STOP IT STOP IT! Someone close this thread before there's a law suit ! ;)
Respect electricity. Make sure you understand how it flows before you do even the most basics of things such as wiring up an amp. A car battery has a lot of power in it.

did you really think i was going to hook a sub up to 240v?? NFW yeh, iv seen what happns to ppl when they are hooked up to 240v even 240KV (240, 000 volts) 240kv blows stuff up, so does 240V, im not that stupid.... altho.....
i just wanna know, what is my best way of frying a sub?? without the use of 240v, i wanna do it with an amp and a sub
