View Full Version : need to tighten up my
Hey guys I've been away from the magna board for a while now, but i will have some extra cash early feb so time to start modding again :D
Whats the current update on RPW's Race Extractors im still waiting to find out if there is going to be any noticible difference on my 3L Auto or should i just get the street ones and be done with it? whats the pricing difference?
what are peoples experiences with the highflowed throttle body from rpw this is also something im looking at getting soon if its going to be worthwhile,
Also i wanna improve the handling a bit more on my car already got king springs super lows on the front and lows on the rear, next step would be a rear sway bar? or would you go shocks?
Thanks guys
Matty
thanks guys :D

thanks guys :DRPW Extractors.. lol
Throttlebody: DIY mate.. there is a good writeup by Neil (HyperTF).. Dont goto RPW for this, they are a rip off with the prices they charge.. Even take it to a local Turbo rebuilder/performance shop.. They will do it for half the price of what RPW charge.
Handling: Strut brace, rear sway bar and then some shocks. Unless you have alot of travel with your shocks.. then replace those first.
Bain! havent spoken to you in aggggges :)
Bain! havent spoken to you in aggggges :)I know man! hows the interior going? Youve been flying under the radar for a year or so!
The last time i saw you, you had half your console out!
Yeah been nice and stealthy hehe

RPW Extractors.. lol
What's so funny?
As Bain suggested, rear sway bar and front strut brace. What state are your shocks in? Do your own throttle boddy but it's really a mod to improve the sensitivity of the throttle.

TB: how ever or where ever u get one, definately good mod. I also have 3.0 auto and it made a noticeable difference in idle-take off stuff. Also, once I learnt to use it - pressing it only slightly instead of paddling like the std TB, I noticed the consumption dropped some 10%.
Suspension: depends on the condition, change dampers as well! Remeber not to go too low - u need to keep your car legal.
Good luck!
so for a reasonably suspension setup to go with my king springs what would you suggest?

For shocks, in order of price and quite possibly quality - Monroe, KYB, Koni. Konis are obviously the ultimate but come in at approximately twice the price of a Monroe GT Gas setup. KYB are meant to be very good, but when I called the company who makes them they said they didn't make a 'performance' shock for the 3rd gen magnas, only an OEM replacement. But by all accounts they're better than the standard shocks anyway, especially if your factory gear is a bit old!
Also consider a front and rear sway bar. Whiteline are good here. Not sure if all models came with a front sway bar? I know the Sports/VR-X comes with a rear as well.
Also a front strut tower brace is a good option. Whiteline to the rescue hear again.
Camber and castor kits are available too, and while you don't necessarily need them in the same way you do with, say, a commodore (horrible camber problems when lowered), they give you more flexibility in wheel alignment settings which can really help drivability at the expense of a bit of tire wear.
hrmm $590 fitted for Monroe Reflex (replacement model of GT's) its a 2 stage setup a little softer when your going around town, however it is alot stiffer once you start hammering the car,
How's pricing compare to what you guys have spent?
also need to get some additional power so looking at the extractors again, with RPW's extractors is there any noticible difference on my 3L Auto or should i just get the street ones and be done with it? whats the pricing difference? or would i be better off with pacemakers?

RPW "Race" items will cost you $660 + fitting. Pacemakers are somewhere around $380? Not sure if that included fitting or not though. Ask Bain. RPW Streets are cheaper than racies - $550 or so I think. Whether you think they're worth the extra dollars is a personal thing. They have a few properties that should make them better for extreme mods, like larger diameter primary pipes, but is it worth 40% more?
I've got the race items on my 3.5L manual. I like 'em. I've never had pacemakers though so I don't know the difference :)
What's so funny?
The fact that it took cthulhu a year to get his! Good luck in getting any in under a month..
The pacemakers are 380 + 80 - 120 fitting..

Well, that's really because the design wasn't finalised until a month ago so technically I got one of the very first production batch, but I see your point :D
Granted, they could have been done sooner and communication could have been better, but that's life. I don't think you'll have problems getting a set in a short frame of time now that they are an actual shipping product.

its the dash surround around the headunit, not the center console up the car :) i painted it white to match the exterior colour of the car :)
