Hey all, having some problems at the moment with my new TL Wagon (June 03 ES).

I've lurked on here since last week when I bought the car having had my highly modified Mondeo that I brought from the UK went up in flames on the Freeway :sook:

Already had the 20% tints done, put a nice set of 17's on, got it booked in to be lowered tomorrow etc....

I also have an Alpine head unit, set of Focal components, set of Focal co-axials, two JL 12" subs, two amps and a whole heap of Dynamat Extreme to fit, however, I CAN"T WORK OUT HOW TO GET THE D@MN HEAD UNIT OUT!!!

Last night I pulled and pushed and pressed and levered but I cannot find out where the fixings are located, I've worked out from previous posts that the centre dash has to come out, but can someone who has previously taken a TL apart please please please tell me how to do it before I launch in there with my big screwdriver!!!!

I know it's amusing, but this is probably the first time I have been beaten by something like this and I'm sure I could work it out given enough time, but would rather get some advice from you experienced dashboard removers out there....

Please don't reply and just say 'use the search facility', cos I have and I can't find the details on a TL.........

Thanks in advance......

cant really help you with the TL. Although it may have the same setup behind.. Check up underneath the dash to make sure this clip is undone before trying to remove the top part of the console. (this is off a TJ) then you can remove the upper air vents which gives you access to the 2 screws for the centre part of the console. To get at the 2 bottom screws, simply lift out the console between the 2 chairs and remove the ashtray part.

you dont need to take any of that out. not even the airvents. You can get to the screws just by pulling it out.

Cant help you with a tl. I've never done em. I wouldn't think they'd be too much harder than the tf. But guess im wrong by the sounds of it.

Sorry to go digging but it never got answered. What is the trick with TL dash's because the airvents are a single piece with the rest of it. Any tricks?

Also, anyone know how to get the wire off the white plastic bit in the last picture? It's the vent control doobie from the face panel..

The bottom connection just slips off the lever, needs a little muscle if 1st time.

Access it by taking off the driver's side panels - that's the only reason why you do.

It doesnt need a little muscle.. A little muscle can break it..

Squeeze the white peice together and pull the connection off..

Ok, I'm having the same problems trying to remove the stereo from my TL, and can't see that anyone got an answer yet, so i'm asking again.

I can get the centre console around the gear selector out, no probs.

As as been noted before the vents and the whole plastic piece around the stereo and climate control is all one piece. I can get the top part around the vents to unclip, but the bottom part around the climate control dials is still stuck in place. Any ideas anyone?

Take out the console around the gearstick. Then open the small flap at the bottom of the vertical centre console. Put your hands in it and gently and evenly pull back. It has clips like most other things and it will come out. Once the lower section is out then you can undo the screws which are visible to get the top section out. You will have to undo the hazard light switch and climate control intake and the whole upper part will come out. Undo the remaining screws and disconnect the two climate control cables and then you will clearly see the frame the stereo goes into. Hope this helps.
