This was a question regarding a 98 solara.
"Is this definately a 3.5l. I have been looking around at 97, 98 TFs and was told the 3.5l was only available in the Verada"
It was definitely a 3.5 LTR, I neglected to add it was a Mits. Special Vehicle build No. 18 of 30, however the car has been sold and should have been removed from Ebay. Thankyou for your interest. Regards

TF Solara Sports?
Never heard of it. But the KF and even the KE i believe had 3.5's, so i guess it would be pretty easy for someone to just get a KF engine and whack it into the TF.

Redbook doesn't list mine either and there's hundreds of them, from what he said it was 18 of 30 indicating a very small run of them.
Anyone who works at mitsubishi heard of "special vehicle builds"?

Phil, what is special about yours which isn't in the Red book?
I'm pretty sure the 3.5L engine was available for a magna as well as a verada in the TF models. I'm not sure whether it was an option for all luxury trims from executive to solara, or just the sports one

Well I'm pretty sure there were no 3.5L engines that came out for the TE-TF Magna's (Apart from the Veradas).
Taken from the NRMA Open Road review (http://www.mynrma.com.au/magna-th-magna_bigpic.asp) that backs up my point:
"The firmness of Mitsubishi's resolve to pinch as much Camry/Falcon/Commodore business as it can is obvious in its decision to fit the Australian-built 3.5 litre V6 from the luxury Verada to the other cars in the new Magna range, starting with the $28,800 Executive manual sedan. "

ive seen 2 sports models (TF's) with 3.5's
i even looked at one but was sold the next day (black semi-auto sports :( but had done quite a few km's) the other i saw advertised but never looked at it
there a few others out there that have 3.5ltr 98's but never seen 96-97 with 3.5 that was not a verada
not that it wouldnt be hard to plonk a 3.5 in there instead of a 3.0, maybs those 98 models got mixed up at the factory :P
i'm pretty sure 3.5 was an optioin, but RARE...lalla its 2am

Is that similar to the solara, modded up old stock to move ahead of a new model?

Don't think so as mines a 5 month 99 which is near the start of the TH run, more of a pretty it up to make it a little different from the base model.

Are you sure it was a TF? Mitsubishi didn't bring out a sports shifter until the TH came out, and that was only on the Sports and Verada's.

To add onto that, there was no true 'Black' colour in the Third Gen Magna range until the TH. The closest thing was Charcoal Grey like your colour, [THUGDOUT].

okay i was wrong, the TF Sports does have a sports shifter. That means that would have been the first model to have one, not even the Verada had it at that stage.
