Can anyone tell me beyond a shadow of doubt whether or not the muffler on the TJ Sports is a straight through design and whether it has 2.5" piping through it?
I'm looking to do a muffler change but it's not worth it if there are no flow improvements and all I'm going to get out of it is a different sound.

The muffler is a tri-flow. 100% certain. Its NOT straight through. Rip it out and put a straight through one on.
If your not sure then put your car up on a hoist and show a decent exhaust shop, they explain why its not a straight through rear muffler.
To be even more certain i can tell you this. The stock Sports/VRX system has a middle muffler and then a big rear muffler. The redback system that replaces this has a bigger middle muffler, a resonator near the axle then a rear muffler similar size to the stock rear. The redback system is louder than the stock Sports/VRX system. You put two and two together...... The Sports/VRX rear muffler is NOT straight through or it would be louder than the redback system and would not pass the necessary ADR's

Thanks, mate. Brilliant info re the muffler. Definately going the swap-a-roo then.
I have to say I thought the stock exhaust had a cat, then a resonator, and then the final rear muffler. You're saying there is an additional muffler?

if you're gonna go straight through, you dont want it too large 'cos you still need some backpressure. (unless you're going FI)

Yes thats correct the stock exhaust has a cat, then a resonator, and then the final rear muffler
Resonator/middle muffler, call it either but thats what i meant.
As for going to big, 2.5inch with a straight through rear should do the job with out going over the top

Greetings All.
Yeah, I managed to get gremlins system off him. But when I decide to upgrade, Im going to get a redback 2.5" cat-back exhaust, with a magnaflow middle muffler (Instead of a hotdog or resonator) and a cannon. (In this case i will ONLY be using the redback piping, NO mufflers from redback). I will prolly also get a set of pacemaker extractors...Gimmie 6-9 months! :D
Cheers All!!

Tonba, your talking sence mate!
My system is 2'5 piping from cat back, ripped out centre muffler/resonator and whipped a lukey system on their, now with the pacemakers and straight though sounds like a very angry car.
Hope you go down this route Tonba you'll be extremly happy.
Enjoy
