Hi kids

Yes, ok, I have done a search, but nothing has seemed to be helpful (yes, i know, that line sounds familiar)

Equipment:

JVC KDS895
Blaupunkt GTA4100
PG 6.5" Octane R splits
8 guage cheapo power and ground wires
cheapo RCA's that came with wiring kit

I recently installed a set of PG 6.5" splits in my door and the noise is driving me insane. IT'S THE DREADED ENGINE NOISE, AND ONLY HAPPENS ON ACC AND WHINES WITH ENGINE REVS. I have changed the ground of the amp, to under the back seat, I have changed the ground of the H/U to a new position near the piece of metal, next to the handsfree plug (sanded, bolted and soldered).

I did some testing after I changed the grounds, and there was only a tiny improvement.

Sometimes, if I bump the RCA on the amp, the whining decreases, but is still there.

I grabbed my laptop, and connected them to my amp, and after i turn the car on ACC, the noise is there!

The strange part is when I disconnect everything off the amp and put the car to ACC. The whining noise is still there!! This probably only narrows it down to speaker wire or noisey amp... I ran the speaker wire along with the RCA's down the LHS of my car, and power on right. I don't have another amp to test stuff on, so thats rather sad. Oh, audio guru's what are ur thoughts??

Dry earth track connectionery thingymabobbly? (doubt it)
Or maybe I have too sensative ears? :doubt: :P
Also, seems to be coming from engine bay/firewall area

If the noise is "whining" and increases with revs then this is alternator whine. A suppressor cap on the alternator should do the trick. But i would question the earth on your amp as well.

I'll look into the cap thing...

OK, where has everyone else grounded their amps? originally had it on a threaded bolt that happenned to be sticking out on the LHS of the boot (I think it was supposed to be used to hold the carpet trim down, but I lost the plastic screw-on plug thingy)

I moved it to under the seat, in the middle part, where there is a square shaped metal plate. I unscrewed the plate, and cleaned, sanded, bolted and soldered the ring terminal under one of the nuts that just so happened to be there.

OK!

News just in, I unplugged the speaker cables off my amp, and i turn the car on ACC, and thee high pitched noise is there!

I think this would mean that the noise is coming from the speaker wires now doesn't it?!!

I used dodgey 3 dollar speaker wire from supercheap, a friend of mine had lying around.. Like i said, i fed them on the LHS of my car parallel to RCA's and thru the rubber things in the doors (VERY annoying and rather hard to feed thru). I ran the wire on the driver side door speaker behind the centre console and thru the rubber thing again (all under the carpet of cousre)

LOL, I think speaker wire and power cable has problems...I'm not sure on RCA and speaker wire running parallel have any problems....

If so, what...do I run them parallel, but twist them around each other to try and get that perpendicular thing going? :P

WOULD getting better quality speaker wire fix this problem? I think its something like, 16/18gauge wire, but has like, 12 strands or something dodgey like that.

nah not wrap them round each other, cross them perpendicualr

like a cross +

dude its the wiring on the alternator had the same problem in my tp, thje earth wire is probably lose or something take it to an auto electrition or get a mate to look at it, its a quick job
thats my thoughts and my knowledge for the night, sleep time now

K I've had the same problem... And still haven't solved it. But i believe it maybe to do with the JVC headunits. I have a kdsx985, factory ground was useless so i grounded it into the body. I think it may also be receiving intereference through the case. (it may be gounding through the case)
Does yours still make noise with the headunit out of the stock location? If so maybe put some washers in there or something to stop the deck making contact with the ground

When my speakers used to be running off the headunit it was soo loud. Same symptoms. High piched squeel on ACC and whining with revs otherwise. Since I amped my front stage the noise has reduced. Its still there when driving with no music on but I always have tunes on so I learned to live with it.

I have a couple of noise reducers which I could try but the with the right wiring you shouldn't need caps etc so I wanna see if I can figure it out.
before you start ripping ur car apart check this out. It doesnt give an answer but it shows a lot of things that this guy has done to solve the problem which didnt work. (he has a magna and a jvc headunit.)

I've tried -Relocating crossovers, relocating all wires, running wires down either side of the car. Upgrading wires, upgrading rca's. All to no avail.

Let us know if you figure this one out. Might be as simple as cleaning up ur battery terminals or something.

Speaker wire does not pick up a lot of interference. Generally neglibile. RCA's will pick up anything, esp from amp power lines. So its very important to separate these. Usually engine whine is a result of a poor ground, or ground loop.

Good luck

Peace

Strange, I never had this noise when I had the front stage running off the H/U...its only until I amped it did i get this noise. I don't think the case of my JVC is actually connected to anything metal, coz I couldn't find holes to screw onto. Its held in only by the metal sleeve, which is fixed to the plastic part of the centre console..(dodgey, i know, but its rather strong in there)

Grrr....sounds like lots of people are getting noise issues in magnas, and haven't been able to solve them. I'm trying, will telll if i fix the problem...at a certain price of course

That engine noise usally comes from a earth problem...

spend some decent money on rca's and you'll be fine, double shielded ones with oxygen free wires. it'll fix your problem real quick.

i had the exact problem from cheapo wiring before, lesson: never go cheap on wiring cos its $20 extra is not worth pulling your car apart twice.

Ok, I just got back from church...and I noticed, when I first got in the car, the noise was there. I drove around, and you could only hear it when everything is silent, when changing tracks on CD. When I hit a speed bump in the carpark, the noise suddenly went all loud..

Anyways, after I finished church, and drove somewhere for lunch, the noise was completley gone. I think it has something to do with the car being warm and stuff....on the way back from lunch the noise had disappeared too.....

If you were in SA i'd lend you some decent RCA's to try out... I would still try earthing the RCA shielding to the body of the car also to see if that lessens it.
