View Full Version : Pinstripe Removal

Hi, I've got two questions.
1) Why in the WORLD would somebody actually CHOOSE to have pin striping put on their car?
2) How do you remove it?
This car is 2-3 years old...if that's important. Does it come off completely cleanly? My old TR had pin striping too and when I removed that it was really noticeable as the paint had a small lip where the pin stripe had been.
Thanks in advanced.

Just pick at it with ur fingernail if you don't bite them.....otherwise VERY CAREFULLY with a razor or stanley knife blade.
Just SLOWLY ease it off the paint by pulling it off.
Wash & polish your car afterwards, it leaves some sticky stuff on your car sometimes (and you can see the outside edges).
I did mine the same night I purchased my car.
i just left my car in the sun on a really hot day, and it just peeled off easy as.....hardly left any residue behind....came off easy anyway.

Erg. So there is no way I'll be able to pull the bloody things off without a trace :(
I guess I'll speak to a car detailer to see what my options are for fixing up those outside edges.

A wash and a polish will get rid of it. Its usually traces of adhesive and a tiny amount of dirt/dust that sticks to it.
I agree with samurai, always easier when it has been in the sun and your panels are hot, it softens the adhesive and comes off much better.
The older it is, the more residue I would expect to see. Under 4 years old and should come off mint. 6 years might be a little iffy.
Note that ALL paint fades, some paint colours more than others. After 3 years the paint covered by the decal could be noticable much darker/clearer. Just something to think about.
