2005 is just around the corner and i plan to purchase a new magna late january/early feburary. I kno that i want either an 2002 series2 VRX or 2002 Ralliart. The only thing holding me back on the ralliart is actually finding one for sale at a good price (unmodded) and insuring the damn thing. Im 18 and wil onli b a partial driver on the policy so any suggestions as to these 2 problems would b helpful. This inevitably leads me to the other option of a VRX. Insurance is cool for that, and they are generally available all the time so it would seem the more convenient option. I have time to find the perfect one so what does everyone suggest i do? Hold out for a ralliart or get a vrx?

Also, are there any issues i should be aware of in either of these cars? If anyone also knows suitable websites/references for sales of either would b appreciated.

Cheers,
Chris...

Ok sit down and work out why you want the ralli art over the vrx and why you would want the vrx over the ralliart. Compare the reasons and make your decision absed on them.

Definately the ralliart is sexier and goes better. The vrx option is just bassically a step bak form the ralliart if i cant find one/insure one, the question is whether i should stick it out with the issues regarding the ralliart. But i stil love them both.

Personally I'd go the cheaper of the 2 options, and spend the difference between them on aftermarket parts and or accessories. I'm not activly watching the market these days so I don't know what the difference in price between a 2002 VRX and a Ralliart is but I'll take a guess and say it'd give you at least $5,000. You can get a enough performance/handling/ICE/body styling (or whatever else tickles your fancy) - to make your VRX really stand out from the crowd for the difference in price between the two.

Just a suggestion - best of luck finding a shweet car either way.

I had 'em both and currently have the Ralliart. If you want the sportier looks as well as a good stereo, stiffer suspension as well as some other bits then go for the Ralliart. In terms of performance over the VRX i hardly notice much difference between them.

If your concerned with Insurance go the VRX. You could spend 5K and do some impressive mods to a VRX. Follow the heart and make the right decision.

  Stop here!! He’s only an 18 old kid with no experience on the road at all. All of you are crazy? giving him advice on a fast powerful car! Sorry kid but at first you supposed to learn how to drive Daihatsu Charade not VRX or even Executive As you put in 1 post, I think that you wanna buy VRX only for druging friends from lights, coz is faster than SS commonw!ore .Better save your live and don’t buy any magna until you get more experience.

Hey I've been driving my TJ series 2 exec since I started driving a year and a half ago when I was 16 and a half. Never had an accident, never been pulled over by the cops, etc etc.

Just cause you're young doesn't mean you drive like a *** idiot  I stick to the speed limit, I accelerate up to it quite strongly sometimes thought lol but I think you'd be more likely to wipe yourself out in a daihatsu charade than a magna. At least in the magna, if you crash at high speed, you've got a much larger car and if one of the later models, prolly air bags too.

Just cause you get a car which doesn't have much power doesn't mean the kid isn't gonna take it up to high speed.

Exactly, ive learnt to drive and been on my p plates on mine/my brothers wrx and my magna and never had a serious prang, copped any sort of fine or been pulled over once. If i realli wanted to act stupidly on the roads i have the means to do so as both a 2.0T and a 3.0V6 giv u a weapon. Im in it more for the sexiness of both of the ralliart and vrx and not to race SS commodores. However your concern is quite understandable given the state of p plater fatalities.

yer u tell him
i am 18 as well and i can see where u both are coming from.
although im only 18 and have only been driving for not much more than 2 years i have been working in the car industry for ages and ive seen that it dont matter how long u drive for u either can drive or u cant drive. thats that.
now when i hire a car to someone who is maybe not as good in experience or practice i prefer to give them a biger car that will have more power but for everybody concerned a late model large car is far more safer than a small car.
i recently bought a 2003 fpv xr8 and that is the machine and i have alot of fun with it but with the power i dont go crazy. i know some people will but u cant go steriotyping on someones age so cristoes i say go with what u feel is right in buying but remember there are alot of hidden costs involved as the car gets more powerfull.

i found myself int he same situation not long ago about buying a car

i asked myself, can i really justify spending another $10,000 on a decent non thrashed ralliart, to be honest isnt that much greater then a vrx ?

an extra 20kws, big deal, chuck a pod, exhaust, extractors, and a ecu and thers yor power.
that'll cost ya whole 2.5k

if you like the ralliart because of the looks, its going to be hard to get a ralliart kit if you dont buy one on the car !

personally i say buy the vrx, less chance of getting stollen, and a hell of a lot less worry when it comes to insurance............

my 2 cents

Thats the same frame of mind I'm in at the moment (except for the mods) . I'm guessing however that it wil come down how much my parents love me and my results lol Na i love my parents.

Are there any particular things i should look for tho in a vrx or ralliart? Like, known problems, issues etc. Also, what is the likelyhood that either will have a sunroof? Coz i want one! :)

It's a no brainer. If your parents are financing the car and they are happy to pay the extra (and you're happy to let them pay extra), get the Ralliart. If cost is an issue, get a VRX or a Sport.

Both would be excellent and there are many people out there who'd love to have the problem you're faced with.

As for insurance, Allianz told me they don't differentiate between a Magna executive and a Ralliart Magna. The price was the same for both.

You know if you get a Ralliart your brother is going to want to race you? Well don't. Just tell him the Ralliart is quicker and leave it at that.

I meant it tongue in cheek but the standard WRXs I race against at Wakefield aren't any quicker than a Ralliart. They actually have exactly the same power to weight ratio as a Ralliart.
