Okay i have a 92 verada and to be honest i am sick to death of it but anyway :S

It keep stalling and the bloody thing is auto as soon as the revs drop its not happening all the time just some of the time whats the chances of it been the throttle position sensor and if so what am i looking at to replace it?

Also on another note the cow is blowing heaps of white smoke on start up any ideas :S

I really honestly just want to sell it but we have just spent heaps on new struts brakes and heaps of other things so really dont want to part with it:(

Anyone in ipswich and want to lend me a throttle position sensor for a couple of hours :s

Thanks Guys and gurls ...

There's a few things the stalling could be related to:

ISC = Idle Speed Control motor, this could be stuffed. A quick way to check this is to turn on your A/C when the car is running, do your revs raise to compensate for the power loss? If not, chances are your ISC is stuffed.

www.nardek.com.au (I think) has them for about 250, but you can source then cheaper elsewhere, I just cant remember where lol

TPS could be set wrong, if it's too low this usually results (well this is what it did for me anyway) in constant revving when at what should be idle, like you're sitting there trying to egg someone on to drag you at the lights.

I set mine by just trial and error, loosened it off and adjusted it while running till I got it right.

The smoke would be probably valve stem seals. I dont know the cost of replacing these...I dont *think* it's really expensive, but I can't say for sure.

I should say the car done this a few months ago and seemed to just stop doing it after a while and was running fine.

IN regards to the air con no it doesnt change the idle speed when turned on:((

Well then it's probably your ISC.

I had the exact same problem when mine had died, it'd stall while I was changing gears (manual). Very scary.

yeah i'd say its somethin up with your idle controller too.. unless its just plain set too low.. hmmm

as for the white smoke.. burning oil perhaps?? i duno mate but from what you've described your engine just has a few little problems which shouldnt cost tooo much to fix.. or its completely stuffed and needs reconditioning.. without seeing the car its hard to say. How does it rev? the magna V6 are renowned for being really smooth and quick revving.. if your car isnt smooth and quick revving then you have some problems. Take her to a decent mechanic if thats the case.. although if i was you i would be taking it to a decent mechanic anyway.. we are mere amatures here :P

My best guess (based on experience) with the white smoke on start up is probably the valve stem seals. Not too mcuh to worry about unless you want to sell your car soon then it is a turn off to buyers. But nothing is going to get damaged anytime soon. Also does it do it if you have been idling for a while?
As for the ISC motor, if you remove yours and take it to your nearest Mitsubishi dealer, they will trade it for a reconditioned one and it will be about half the cost of a new one. On my beloved Wagon, may it rest in peace, it had a busted ISC for so long that when I replaced it it busted the ISC controlling module in the ECU and then it never worked.
However I got around it buy just increasing my idle speed a couple of hundred rpm higher eg: 1000-1100 rpm and I never had any problems with stalling. Except maybe when it was cold with aircon on and in drive and with the power steering at full lock. But opther than that just crank up the idle rpm a little. (big sunken in screw in the throttle body. no3 phillips head (no2 will fit) just turn it anti clockwise I think).

250 killbilly? your dreaming, go to a wreckers and get a changeover reco ENTIRE throttle body for $90. I had the constant reving at idle problem too :). Was my TPS or automatic choke or something. replaced the whole throttle body cuz it was cheaper. also what shagna said can work too, raising the idle just a couple of hundred rpm would stop it stalling. haha when i have my car on full lock it idles rough but doesn't stall :).

I got mine from there for $250 because i was in a hurry and I needed the car back on the road, so there was no time to shop around wreckers plus the time to install the damn thing. FYI, Mitsubishi were quoting me twice as much as the place from Nardek for a brand new one. Why didn't the bastards offer me a swap and reco one? Grrrr....

SH!T! only twice? usually its about thrice :bowrofl: . Nah i think it had something to do with my mechanic, he has some wrecker he always goes to and knows what he wants/needs. Guess it's like if you buy parts from me i'll lower the price deal maybe? My mech (been with the family for 30 years) is really good, knows his **** on magnas thats for sure, i'd taken my problem to 3 other mechs and they all did the same thing, cleared the puter and charged my $70 ><, then my mech found the problem in 5 minutes, cost me $90 :D.
