Got my amp and sub put in this week. Alpine MRV-F540 and a CDT CL1015 (tuned to 30 Hz). Very impressed with the job done. My system now does exactly what I want it to do and sounds awesome with acoustic and jazz, especially female vocals. Modern pop is dealt with very well also. Takes up hardly any boot space either (~1 cubic foot).
At first it sounded terrible and really made my left ear hurt, even at low volume. We discoverd that the front channel RCA's were the wrong way round at the head unit. Swapped them over at the amp (easier) and the difference was night and day.
I also got an ipod and use a Belkin car charger which has a line out. This is plugged into the auxillary input at the back of the amp and I'm very impressed with the sound. I did rip most of my CD's at 192 and some at 256 though. (Note: no more CD's taking up space in the car)
I would like to move the charger away from the ciggy lighter. Ideally it would be completely behind the dash so there is only one wire coming out which plugs into the ipod. Is this easy to do? I was thinking it would be simplest to install a second 12v socket behind the dash and just plug the charger into it instead of ripping the charger apart and stuffing up it's internals. Anybody else done this?
