i m seriously considering getting a lukey for sola|2a, and have a few questions:

1. which would u recommend me? the original LR2779 or the bolt on AL4-5597?

2. approximately $$ of the muffler and $$ of installation?

3. for those off u who got it done in Sydney, which shop did u get it done at? i live in the eastern suburbs and hopefully dun have to travel too far to get 1 installed!

thanks in advance guys ;)

Hello again sola|2a
Ok I got the AL4-5597 installed onto my magna with a 3 inch tip for a total of $250 from western tyres and exhaust which is out hoxton park way. I basically went the bolt on incase I really really hated the sound and I got to keep the stock exhaust which I figured I could sell but no one seems interested :( At first the increased noise really got to me but now I almost want it louder I love the sound it makes. As for performance I really wish I had a before and after dyno as I never really hammered my car before the exhaust so couldn't really notice huge ammounts of power gain however when I jumped into my dads verada the other day it seemed to have less guts than my car which could be put down to the exhaust. There was another place in fairfield that could do the same exhuast for the same price as well you just need to bargain and expect alot of them not to know the lukey model off the top of there head they usually need to ring you back.
Oh yeah on a side note you can get the LR2779 for around $170ish.

hope that helps :)

I got the LR2779 (weld on) 2.5" mandrel bent cat back exhaust with chrome tip for $490 installed.

That was at Windsor Exhaust Centre, near the RAAF Base in Richmond.

What's the difference between the two?

Is one a weld on and the other a bolt on?

Hey, Killbilly, you still post to CAA?

Yeah same muffler, one bolt on and the other is weld on.

Haven't been to CAA in a while. Must have a look again :)

It's back to 'normal' again. Just some name changes.

I asked a guy what the LR2779 would cost and he couldn't find it in his catalogue. He said the book was a month old too.

OK - the LR2779 has been upgraded by the later model - which is AL4-5597 - same muffler except it has been made to bolt on!!

I have the LR2779 and it cost me only 149 installed with a chrome tip.

but that is in WA!!

Hey Sola,I got a lukey hi-flow exhaust, extra pip to the cat and a 3 inch
stainless steel tip for $320,thow the lukey i got has been "significantly"made for magna's 8) ,so whether there's an exhaust
store near you who deal heavily in lukey products, they should be able
to get their hands on the same hi-flow muffler as mine. The extra piping has made a lot of difference as it gives it more"breathing" and a betta noise, for sure :D

Method......i should be getting mine next week. I am getting it through someone who works at Lukey. I will see how easy it is to fit and may fit it myself. If not i will get Joe Bloggs at the local exhaust place to fit it.

If you get the bolt on one- should be easy to change over - just don't try it while your exhaust is hot!!

I got the Lukey LR2779 yesterday, with a stainless steal 2.5" tip, installed for $201 at Right Price Exhausts. They are at Moss St. (Brisbane)

Mine seems to have no annoying droning sound yet, which is good. Much more lively when I put my foot down now :)

BTW, Moss St is full of car shops - and hoon central for loud exhausts and modded cars lol, so watch out crossing that road :p

yeh ive been looking around for all thsie too, but the thing is i really like the look of the stock muffler with the twin pipes. the only thing is my exhaust is really ncie and beefy at the moment cos ive got a couple of spliots in it. this is wat i want to get fixed, and i want extractors too. does anyone know if i can just get the pipes done, like a 2.5" mandrel bent cat back system?

Dave from RPW, (www.rpw.com.au), says that the stock exhaust on a 3.0 & 3.5 Magna is a 2.5' mandrel bent system so getting a cat back system is a waste of money. Other people say it's a 2.25. I measured mine and I'm still unsure. RPW also have extractors. Is your car a 4 or 6 cylinder engine?

I must be missing something. I measured it with some vernier one night and it varied from 2.2 - 2.4. Anyway, I'm not trying to dispute it, I'm just confused. We'll have a look at it at the dyno day.

To confirm this, the Stock Magna System varys from 2.25 - 2.5" and is a mandrel bent system.

David from RPW is right, replacing the stock magna plumbing generally is a waste of money but it isn't allways the case. No hard can be done with a 2.5 Mandrel Bent System if your prepared to spend the extra money.

Just to clarrify, which Magna's have the 2.25" and which have the 2.5" ??

Ive got the mitsu bolt on upgrade muff which is similar to the lukey..
also just got my pacemaker extractors installed too :) mmmmmm extractors!

I think it varies across the system, not the cars. I think they all have the same plumbing, it just happens to vary a quarter of an inch. That's what I found when I measured the last foot or so. I haven't had a chance to measure the piping from the middle to the front. Don't particularily feel like paying more money for something when it's probably adequate anyway. I guess it gets to the point where you're shelling out lotsa dollars for small improvements.

Anyway, I'm thinking muffler and extractors. That way, it's an 'easy' swap if I feel like selling it.

Sports and VRX in the earlier models and all the TJ to my knowledge has a 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust

Muffler was the only difference between the exec and the sports/vrx

You bet I will. Got a dyno day coming up soon and I plan on doing 3 runs.

Stock, + panel filter, + Lukey muffler

then 1 more when I get extractors in who know's how long away.

The lukey muffler takes a little time to breath in - and so do the extractors - it is like driving a new car - if you put a brand new car on the dyno and then put it on in 10K it will have more power as the parts are alll working together and have all tidhtened or loosened as tehy needed to.

thx for the info Manual... but which one should i go with...? any suggestions?

what i dun really get is how the bolt on works? i heard Slayer getting like 3 inches cut off the end of his exhaust b4 the muffler or something like that?? i mean i am kinda swayed to get the LR2779 over the bolt on version.... can some1 tell me the advantages and disadvantages of both?

one other thing... if i was to get the LR2779, i will have to get a separate tip??? can it be any tip? how do they attach it to the muffler? i dun want a straight tip.... but one that bends vertically downards @ a 45 degree angle... similar to the stock executive one but preferrably a single 3 inch tip...

any answers will be much appreciated.... thanks

Thr bolts on works.. as the name implys as a bolt on replacment..
The exhaust comes down the centre then makes 90' turn to the drivers side then goes up and over the rear axle at this top point there is a bolt through flange.
I gather the bolt on mufflere attaches at this point. ie you can prob do it yourself!
The other one will require some welding to be fitted.. ie the old one cut off and the new one welded on...
Why?
Well if you get bolt on and you dont like it for some unknown reason... unbolt it and sell it... bolt the orig back on.
In the other case ... cut it off and weld the orig back on with some new pipe and therefore more $$$$

I'm also interested in the tip options for the bolt-on.

I really like the look of the 45deg down angle, and the dual-tip is nice too. I really don't want a crome tip.. I think they look tacky. I'd actually be happy to keep my current dual tip 45deg down on a new bolt-on muffler.
Anyone had any experience with this?

Also you guys in Adelaide, I've been tempted to do this for a while, if we can find somewhere cheap to get this done, maybe they'll give us a group-buy discount.

I have found it pretty hard to decide on a tip for the exhaust. I have narrowed it down to 3. A 3 inch dumper, single to twin round DTM style and a single to twin straight square tip.

I am not sure which one to go for. I will have to make a decision by tomorrow as i am ordering it tomorrow.

The place i went to to have a look at tips suggested that the single to dual tips may have a negative effect on the exhaust note.

I dunno...I took a few from the shop and put them against my car in the carpark.

Put one there that was oval prolly 4"x2" and I took one look at it and went "THat's the one!"

Took it back in and the dude there said "I knew you would choose that one!" lol

Ordered the muffler and tip yesterday from my friend at Lukey. Should have it by the Friday so i can fit it on Saturday. I ended up going for the AL4-5597 with a double wall oval tip.

1994TH,

As well as pics, do you mind posting how much it cost you?

I know the Lukey you got is the bolt-on.. does the original bolt-off? Did you find it hard/long to do yourself?

thanks

I dont know price...
But at the Qld Dyno day on Saturday Redav did a run with the Lukey and with the stock one.....
It was a 5-10min job...
Jack up the back of the car (I used the tow hitch point on the back floor pan. Dont jack it on the diff, the diff needs to hang down.) SUPPORT THE CAR WITH STANDS OR MULTIPLE JACKS FOR SAFTY!
And then above the font part of the rear diff there are three bolts on a flange that hold the pipes together. using a ratchet and a spanner undo them.
There are a couple of mounting rubbers that hold the muffler in place... one is infornt of the muffler and one behind.... Carefully pry the support brackets out of the rubber hangers (leaving the hangers in one piece and still attached to the car.)
To remove the actual muffler you will hame to lower and rotate the muffler anti clockwise and then lift it up and over the rear diff.
To install the new one just reverse the above procedure..
It is easier with 2 people so one can hold the muffler in position from the back of the car while the other aligns the bolts and tightens them.

You will also probably require a gasket for the flange (I dont know if the muffler comes witha new one.) and some goop...
I find it easier to goop the new gasket to the new muffler flange... then fit them together..
The goop will keep the gasket from falling down and moving when you are trying to align the three bolt holes.

Hope this helps

The muffler and chrome tip cost me $150 from a friend who works for Tenneco (parent company of Lukey/Walker). I got the LPT-66 chrome tip which is a double walled oval tip (normally around $100) and the AL4-5597 bolt on muffler (normally around $???).

As for the fitment.........the process is as per TBuTcher explained with a couple of minor adjustments.
You actually need 3 new bolts with washers and nuts.
You need a gasket.
More than likely you will need to trim the pipe if you want to fit a chrome tip. (i did)

I jacked up the right hand rear wheel and removed the wheel......undid all the bolts on the old muffler flange and realised that the nuts are welded to the flange of the old muffler. :( So i went rummaging through my shed to find some bolts and didnt have any. :( I also realised i didnt have a gasket. Stupid me had parked my car in front of my girlfriends car so i couldnt take hers to go and get the required parts so i thought stuff this and put it all back together and took it to a muffler place and paid them $30 to fit it. :D i must say a much better option as the piping needed cutting to length to allow for the tip to be fitted (and the tip needed to be welded on).
