Im thinkin of getting a Kicker Solo-Baric L5 S10L5 10". But will need a new box (obviously, cos they're square). Anyone know of anywhere in Vic that makes decent boxes for decent(not much) money? The price of the box will depend on whether or not i get the sub....

DIY... Buy mdf, screws, glue, carpet, fibreglass and do it all yourself. Just remember it should be strong enough for you to jump up and down on.

Take your plans to a cabinetmaker and get a quote. :)

Cabinet makers will do that stuff no probs... Check to see if they've made subbie boxes before though

but dont sub boxes have to be made up and measured very precisely?

Depends what you want. If you want the best from your subs then you should follow manfucaturers recommendations for size. There are many volume measuring programs on the net too. You just put in the specs of the suba nd it will spit out an appropriate box for you.

Generally the bigger the better. What are you after sealed = sq and innefficient, or ported = louder and more efficient. There are many options with port size and shape as well. Try and make it as round as possible to allow smooth airflow.

How much space are you willing to give up?

well, my 10" box is not really taking that much space in the back of my boot. id say i have about 70-75% of my boot still usable.

If you make a custom box you can get a lot of extra volume for your sub and take up a lot less space. Esp if you make it high, say up against the back of the back seat. You can also go the fibreglass route and glass it into the wheel well (Foregoing your spare which I wouldn't recommend)

Or you can go something different and glass it into one of the rear corners of the boot, say behind the one of the tail lights, Nice and compact and can look very stock if you carpet over it right.
