My windscreen wipers get noisy when I use them and its driving me crazy. I have boughts new wipers, I have tried new rubber wipers, I have tried new silicon wipers, I have tried windscreen fluid. My wipers are still noisy.
Does somebody tell me how to fix this annoying problem?
U could try Rain X?
I had an old bottle of this and applied it every once in a while. It works well at repelling water, but i'm sure the company that makes Rain X should have a product to suit your needs! Buy now today, if you ring in the next 10 minutes...i'll throw in a bonus ab-doer for FREE!! There is a 60day money back warranty on the product, no questions asked.

Maybe they're pressing too hard against the glass.
I had the same problem and a good application of RainX on the windscreen and it got rid of the rubbing noise.
What kind of noise are you experiencing exactly?

I bought a whole new wiper blade, Aunger I think it was. Comes in black and Carbon fibre. I went the carbon fibre. They aint too bad, and they have a big wing, aerofoil thing. Increase my downforce at the front, I get at least 10 kw extra at the tyres. lol
They just clip in 5 minute job and cost like $13 each from supercheap if my memory serves me correctly. Make sure you get the right size. they have good blades in them too.
do they have twin wiper blades? as in two strips of rubber per arm?? but hey aftermarket wipers are teh sh!t!!!!! :)

Do you wash your car with wash and wax? This can cause the wiper to grip the wax that dries on the windscreen

Are you sure its wipers that are noisy or the motors ?????
unless your windscreen got 1-2mm of dust layer on it and wiper is trying to clear that off.

Rain X don't always help.. sometimes it makes it worse.. YOu can try to soften the wiper blades with 555 wipes.. :)
My wipers make haggered noises... the rubber drags along the window... even with new wiper blades.
It's driving me insane!! does someone know how the blade is supposed to sit? when i lift the arm off the windscreen, both are bend and both blades are curved.

Maybe you need to replace the whole blade including the arms connecting to the wiper's motor......

That's what i was thinking needs to happen:doubt:

I have bought various different wipers/wiper blades from SuperCheap Auto and Auto Barn over years and their all noisy on my windscreen. I haven't tried ginuine wipers though. Could this be the problem or is it something else

i have Wurth brand wiper rubbers in may car, have had them for nearly 12 months now. they still wipe like new, and never squeal. I got them from my dads work. I think they would be like $5 each refill, but worth it. Best wiper blades ever! Like most of you guys, on previous cars, i tried all sorts of different ones, and by far, these are the best i have ever used. Wipes the window clean instantly with a little squirt.

This is a common problem on all cars. It is normally caused by grease or wax (if you wax your car) on the windscreen. I suggest you clean your screen with something like windex. You should do this about every 6 months because your wiper fuild doesn't remove most of it, and it builds up from the **** you pick up off wet roads. Generally chaging blades wont fix it, although
sometimes you need to clean your screen and change your blades as the greasy junk can build up in the rubber folds on your blades. If it's really bad i would do both, at the same time.

I replaced today the wiper blade and the metal part that comes with it. They are aunger part number s WCB 22 and WCB 20.. I cleaned the windscreen outside throgughly with windex before hand... its now super quiet and becaujse of the air flap thingy on the front of them they push harder onthe windscreen....I cant belive i lived for 3 years with noisy wipers...

I had this problem, the wipers would scrape really loud, I took them off and put them back on the arm from the other direction, that fixed it but now they are almost stuffed anywa lol.

Yeah this is something i have always noticed on my 3rd gens. My 2nd Gen had great wipers but i recon the 3rd gens are the pits with how noisy and slow they are.
The noise that ****s me the most is when the wipers reach full stretch and change direction you get a loud clunk noise from the rubber bending.
Does this noise go with a whole new wiper arm/blade setup? I have changed rubbers that many times with no differnce.
I like to know this aswell

i had a bad rubbing sound too, thought the blades were shot, bought some new silicon white ones (cannot remember brand but they are front supercheap and come out in many colors) and they work awesome now, just make sure when u cut your new blades to size... you size up EACH blade, they are 2 different sizes.

Just replaced the whole wiper blade setup (not the arm) with new Bosch wiper blade setup. That loud clunk noise you get when the wipers change direction has gone. The windscreen wipers are dead silent. Cant even hear them going unlike before where they were so loud with the clunking when changing direction it was embarrassing. Whole thing only cost me about $30 from bursons.

If your wipers bounce across the screen instead of glide try the old tooth paste on the blades trick.. :D
FamilyWagon
13-01-2006, 02:49 PM
Nah they wern't bouncing. The blades themselves are always new and they work fine. It was just when the blade got to the full reach pisition and then they come back the other way thay make a clunk noise which is the rubberchanging direction. Turns out that it is the play in the old wiper blade setup that makes the clunk noise.

Surpised no one has mentioned looseing up the boths on the wiper arms themselves, wheer tyhe arm meets the motor. If that is to tight it might be pushing the wiper arm against the windshield to hard.

I use Trico teflon single blade rubber inserts (metal backing), and they are fantastic; best wipers I have ever used. Much so that many people in my car for the first time in Rain have commented on how strong the wipers are.
The multi blade, colored, silicon blades are a gimmick and not worth using; stick to natural rubber, metal backed inserts.
As mentioned previously, also make sure the glass itself is clean too; use mineral turpentine to get all the road grime off.

carbon fibre is carbon crap, but hey if your want that look go for it, as for the whiper blades, hope they ain't stratching

Mine did that, cured it with new arms and blades.
On having the old and new side by side, the old springy bits were no longer springy, I reckon that could be the problem.
As someone already said the cost is about $13 buckeroos each

what does that do?
Sometimes the blades get a chuttering effect when they move, like they are sorta bouncing on the glass. its got something to do with the blades(twin blades are most likely). so what you do is rub tooth paste on the blades and its ment to make it all better.. its a myth thats been around for years, ive never needed to try it so i cant say.. :D

Exact same rubbish happens with my 3rd gen.
I copped it bad on my old 2nd gen, though.
Annoyed the sh*t out of me.
I, myself changed the wiper blades and changed the actual wipers but nothing worked.
There had to be a good amount of water on the windscreen for the wipers to not "squeak" and it really p*ssed me off when it was drizzling as I had to manually control the wiper instead of just leaving it on intermittent.
Never had any problems in the Legnum or Chaser though.

Bosch Aerotwins have to be the quietest wipers I've had the pleasure of using. Silent even in very light drizzle :)

rain x will give you greif, I used to use it but got sick of having to reapply every 3 weeks to stop the wiper blades grabbing all the time and jumping all over the place

you can use RainX washer additive as well which can prolong the RainX effect

Pass thanks, tried that as well, when I spoke to my screen guy he also advised against it, told me it is great for a week or 2 then you will have issues. It is something with the silica in the product I believe
To the OP, go the Bosch, I doubted them at first but then again I have a car with a pair that are 12 months old and still as good as when they were installed

LOL, I thought I was the only one that polished my windscreen...
I buy genuine inserts for the magna.. ($14 from mitso Parramatta) and use plain water in the bottle to spray..
Never chatters and cleans the screen perfect...
There was an old bush mechanics tip.. cut an apple in half and rub that on the screen.. repels water for ages... and "lubricates" the wiper... though apple juice is acidic....

I'm with Magmagna here. I have the Bosch as well and its dead quiet! Even up to now they are still as good as when they were first installed.
As outlined in one of the original posts in this thread, it said he used Silicon wiper blades - I tried these a couple times and unless the screen is soaked they make a horrible scraping sound, I would just recommend avoiding silicon blades. Rubber blades have always worked so much better for me personally.
and FYI the Bosch aero's are rubber :) +1 for them.
Bosch Aero twins will be very difficult to get hold of now that SCA no longer stock them. The replacement aussie brand do look good though, I had a squiz today and they look and feel very similar to the Bosch

Went to Super Cheap Auto in Rockdale NSW today, and all they had was Tridon or SCA. They told me that Bosch are not doing business with them anymore. I have sent Bosch an email to find out retailers that are stocking them. Called into Auto One in Newtown and all they had were Bosch refills.
mate try the Tridons. they are an aussie brand and look very good compared to the bosch

Yeah, make sure there is no car wash fluid in the washer tank. car wash leaves a layer of wax/sticky stuff on the screen and fouls the pump.
(Use windscreen washer in windscreen washer tank.)
You can check that the wiper blades touch down on the glass evenly,eg bend the smaller arms that compose the wiper arm, to change the pressure distribution to even it out. Just a slight bend will adjust the pressure.
Also if the rubber is left too long, then its trying to bend too sharp, which throws out the pressure distribution.... cut the plastic/ rubbers off to the length of the metal part of the wiper arms.
