Hey Guys when I put the ignition on and my amp powers up, it makes a loud squealing noise in the front speakers and subwoofer. I disconnected the RCA leads, and it still makes the noise. I check all the connections, behind the stereo and to the amp. But is still makes that noise.
All I can think off is that there is an amp problem.
The noise is very annoying, it like when somone is rubbing a blown up ballon.

You prob have altenator whine. Check your battery connections, clean up your terminals. Where is your amp ground? Have you tried plugging in a discman etc into your amp to isolate the problem. If its through all speakers and the sub then it may be the headunit ground
It is usually ground related. Did this just occur then or is it a new install?
When you rev the engine does the noise change?
Peace

your speaker cables running paralel to your power lead? Ground/eletrical interference problem, rather than alternator whine, because its happening before the engine is started.

Speaker cables will rarely induce noticable interference. RCA cables can as they carry a much weaker signal thus more prone to interference.
StealthNitro said it occurs when he turns on the ignition...

I was refering to the power cable interfering with the speaker cable rather than the other way around... said it still happens even when the RCAs are disconnected so ruled them out.

Soz, i was too... power cables will rarely interefere with speaker wires. You can run them side by side fairly happily. RCA cables will cause problems as they are a line signal. Usually only 1 or 2 volts on average and these are very susceptible to noise.

Sorry guys, I made a mistake. I unpluged the RCA from the head unit but still left them connected to the amp, so the noise still travel through the wire. The noise is from the RCA cables!!!!!!! I have replaced them with some other ones I had, and the noise is gone. I need to get good quality ones that are short because the amp is under the seat now. Maybe Stinger or something when I got cash.
Thanks for the advice.
Hey
I get this problem too, I disconnected my rca's at the amp and i still get a high pitched noise. Use a discman, still the same. My ground has been moved 3 times, currently its at the back, near the tailight on the floor, bolted down to a sanded area. 8ga power and 4ga ground cable. This is driving insane. Oh, bumps in the road affect this problem..also, i tink the rca connectors in my amp are loose..it seems like if i wiggle the rca connectors on my amp, the noise can be fixed.

Try grounding into a spare baby restraint hole. Just get a bolt the same size and sand the paitn off the top of the hole.

Tried it doesnt make a diff lol
Does anybody have a capacitor they'd like to lend me? Or perhaps another amp? (ok, maybe buy for a low price) :P

Sounds ground related, what amp are you running? i have a good amp and a cheap amp and my cheap amp has a similar noise, try turning the gain/volume down on the amp and see if the pitch changes volume as well. Also could be your HU's signal not being grounded properly. Some amps just have dodgy grounds also.
oh, a reply. would you like to temporarily let me borrow your amp to see if it is the problem? :D
umm, its a blaupunkt gta4100, its been knocked around a bit sadly..i'm sorry, i was meaning to love it a bit more, but when my love came it was too late.
some days its perfect, no noise at all.. :doubt:

hey, though i had this problem myself and solved it... it may or may not work for you... have you connected the earth leads of the head unit and amp to the same location on the car?
my setup is a total Sony Xplod system... i wont bore any of you with the details... lol

you *should* use the same earth for all your sound devices, and for high powered amps, they should be earthed to the battery.
also, sometimes screwing amps into metal can cause funny noises, so if this is the case put an MDF board in between the amp and the metal, screw the mdf into metal, and then the amp into the mdf.
