View Full Version : Insurance Woes
So im up to that part of modifying the magna:D:D
yAy!!!
but i thought i would ring the insurnance company to make sure its ok etc etc (AAMI)
and the friendly consultant at the other end said i could only have one modification...to which i said, 'and so after that my premium just goes up' she replied with, no, we just dont insure you.
i want some rims and a suspension set up, turns out i can only have one of these, and one looks ghey without the other.....so i guess i look at not telling the insurance company.(If i do this, what will happen if i ever need to use them)
OR
I change insurance companies, anyone know of insurance within VIC that offers 2 mods for about $1000 a year???
OR
what would a TH look like with stock suspension and a set of 17's???
it will look like a truck wont it...
DAMN DAMN DAMN...
Anyways any suggestions would be much appreciated...
Thanks guys

i go through NRMA and i guess it all comes down to how old you are for the price ... nrma will let you have any size wheel you want on it as long as it's only 7" wide and will only let you lower it 30mm from stocko
but what they dont know wont hurt them as you can go a wider wheel but you wont be able to claim it that's all
i have a 2002 magna and stocko it was $37 a month, i put some mods on it which include, 18" chromies 18"x8" (told them 18"x7"), lowered suspension to superlow (only told them low), body kit and rear wing, indash dvd player and roof mounted screen (insured for $2600) and tinted windows and it only went up $5 a month so all i pay is $42 a month
but that's over the age of 25 and they had no probs at all with the mods i done

17's sitten on stock's does look bit high...
just change company otherwise u crash and they find somthin ur not ment to have that voids the insurance so u wasted 1000 every years and u want be covered by them... so u most likely be sued... not that it may happening...
if u can afford to pay to get 17's and suspension then you can afford to pay extra few 100 if need be....
do a search on insurance there's plenty around
nrma racq gio justcar shannons suncorp aami list goes on
otherwise maybe just get the mags then keep an eye out for other insurance mobs later on if u really want to mod straight away....

I take it you are under 25 as im with Aami and they told me cause im over 25 that i can have unlimited mods as long as they are legal...
oh yeah...
im 18..
see im deferring from uni in 2005 with a full time job, so insurence and mods and **** arent a problem now, im jsut thinking ahead, like when im at UNI trying to pay my excessive insurance bill...
maybe i will just leave it el' stocko for now....
its a shame tho... ah well.... **** happens, insurance companies cause it

Hey in with AAMI and they let me have 3 mods done to the car and im also 18 nearly 19 so i dunno why they only allow u to have 1 mod.
Also im gonna do that advanced driving course with them and get a 10% lower rate.

Well i was with the racv, i didnt tell'em a thing about my mods, my mods were lowered, extractor's, cannon, high-flow T/B, and cai
a) they did'nt care about my mods, or
b) the car was that ****ed they didnt notice
they did'nt say a word about it
one thing you must tell them about is your driving history (they dont like that)

I'd be going to an AAMI office or at least ringing again - I'm with them and my understanding of the situation is not what you were told. Im sure the actual situation is more akin to what The Ego is describing. If you list the mods, then they are covered by the policy (which may adjust in price), but if you do something and 'forget' to list it, like add different rims, then its just not convered in a crash is all (again provided all is legal) which is kinda okay as if you stacked the car badly enough to warrant new rims then you'd be wanting NEW rims, even if you paid for them yourself, not repaired ones.
