Hey guys, just a quick question, will a TE (non-airbag) steering wheel fit onto the 2nd gen steering wheel column with no mods? ie. bolt on?

Yes i found out, the TE steering wheel bolts on but it has no facility for the TR horn, unless you have an SE or Elite. If you have an exec you have to get a switch or something, madmagna knows the answer :).

Instead of creating a new thread i thought i would just let you all know that i have now installed a TE steering wheel and it's awesome :D. If anyone has any Q's about it i am more than happy to answer, but ask away in this thread, my pm inbox is at about 97% lol.

Well if you want pics you can have 'em lol. But keep in mind that i havn't painted the wheel or the interior yet. It's wierd, it's almost like you are driving a new car, only it's just as gutless as your old one lol.

Just out of curiosity, did you have a pic of the interior with the old wheel to compare it too?

Here ya go, best pics i could find sorry.
Also Jono i paid $40 pick up, wreckers wanted between $88-$120 for one  .
Thanks for the kind words guys, but it wont look nearly as good as when it's all finished in black and silver trim :D.

I know this thread is ages old now, but what exactly did you need to do to have working indicators and lights with this wheel?
asking because i put a deposit on a wheel like yours but with cruise control today at my local wreckers

indicators and lights are the same as your old ones. The only thing that wont work unless you have an SE/VERADA/ELITE is the horn. There are ways around this, easiest way is to buy an indicator switch from the above :).
*edit*
Just looking at my interior, makes me miss my car even more. Only 2 more sleeps til i see her again :D.
Dunno how the heck i'm gonna sell it.

how come? does the exec. one get in the way? surely u could get around it with some clever circuitry?

The horn relay is on the indicator stalk for the higher class 2nd gens and 3rd gens, the indicator itself is fine, but you wont have a horn. You need the new horn relay as the stock 2nd gen one doesn't line up with the 3rd gen one. I tried a few things like extending the 2nd gen one to fit, but i got sparks every time i turned the steering wheel. When you go to put the 3rd gen one on you'll see what i mean.

Yeah...............NO
The horn relay is under the cover in the engine bay
The horn connection on the exec is simply a sprung rod that contact the back of the exec wheel.
The SE upwards has a proper clock spring set up. The simplest way is to get the clock spring from the SE which will attach to the exec combo switch.
I have done this mod ages ago, biggest hassle was getting the cruise to work the right way round and getting rid of the dash switch as my wheel is a leather TJ sports, the cruse now turns on and off from the steering wheel.

lol sorry Mal horn relay was poor choice of words, but you knew what i meant :P.
Yes go to a place like pick a part and remove one. Good way of seeing how it all works, and if you fcuk it up, it's not your car ;). My horn still doesn't work, i'm too lazy :P.

I don't get it...
Could somebody possibly exlpain this in a little more detail to me? or perhaps draw a quick paint sketch.
I've got a TE exec, non airbag wheel... and the clock spring assembly ripped out of a TR Elite. Now i havent tried actually installing the assembly in my car, but by looking at it and the wheel... i'd say i'm more than 90% sure it won't work still.
Help... :doubt:
