Hey all im looking at buying a 1996 TE, stock, 5-spd manual, cruise control etc etc. Its an awesome price and its from a wholesaler. $5500! It is pretty rough inside with cigarette burns and a few wear and tears throughout. Nothing I cant take care of myself!
My problems lie under the bonnet! It has 164,325km's on the odometer, What are some common faults and problems I can look for before dropping my deposit?
Thanks in advance!

is it a V6 or a 4cyl???
the only real common issue i've come accross so far (for the V6) is to do with the Auto gear boxes causin probs at about that sorta km's.
i got my TE V6 manual about 6 mths ago, had 94km's on the clock but cost twice the price (very happy with it though, a the manual makes it all the more fun)

just to let u know and a few other 5 spd te owners would let u know these have weak diffs and when these blow and i think most of the te 5spd owners have blown one including my self and are very very costly to replace apart from these and engine mounts these are a wicked car
u will have many very dissapionted 5 litre common*****s at the lights trust me

Engine mounts, belts, and worn synchros.

I'd put a new bearing set through the 'box when you do the syncro's. Expect a $1000 bill there. My TF 3L manual had that ailment.
Try www.carsales.com.au for pricing and other vehicles. I bought my AWD off their website, best thing I've ever done, saved a packet and only had to put up with a salesperson when I was happy I'd found the car I wanted to see!
Even if you paid another grand, you might save 5! It never hurts to check your options.
Either way, all the best with shopping! :D
