seeing the box hasn't been fitted just yet, i'm toying with the idea of fitting a Cusco LSD but can't decide which one
i was wondering what people that have got them use, and if theres any benefits of using a 1.5-2 way or a RS/MZ etc etc...

Yup, deffinately one of the biggest advantages of the 5-spd manual version of the Ralliart Magna, it's great! :D
Unfortunately though i've got no more information than is available on the www.ralliart.com.au website in terms of which LSD is used on the Ralliart Magna.

According to Velocity's website he runs one of the Cusco Type-MZ Limited Slip Differentials...

The Cusco units are available in Type RS and Type MZ.
The Type RS is a more gentle LSD, intended for street use. When the LSD engages, initial torque is absorbed by coil springs, which results in a slight loss of power but a much gentler engagement.
The Type MZ is intended for street/strip use. When the LSD engages initial torque is created by cone plates which come on harder and have higher friction which means negligible losses.
Whether you buy a Type RS or a Type MZ, they can be reconfigured to 1-way, 1.5-way or 2-way.
1-way: activates only on acceleration
1.5-way: activates on acceleration and partially during deceleration
2-way: activiates on acceleration and deceleration
1-way or 1.5-way is the recommended configuration for a FWD. For the Magna, 1.5-way would be best. 2-way is meant for RWD.
LSDs (including the Ralliart apparently?), have a side effect when accelerating slowly on tight corners (like car parks, round abouts). The LSD can begin to engage during these turns. The side effect of this depends on your LSD type:
The Type RS makes slight clunking sounds which are caused by the LSD beginning to engage and then disengage (the sound is a little like a broken CV joint but nothing to worry about).
The Type MZ will cause the front of the car to rock slightly and the tyres to squeal a little, as the LSD is already beginning to engage. The rocking of the car is cause by one wheel trying to catch up with the other. (The outside wheel has a greater distance to travel around the turn, however the LSD is beginning to try and get both wheels to turn at the same speed).
The type of oil used in the transmission will have a significant effect on how aggressive this side effect is, and a friction modifier additive is essential.
The Ralliart unit is taken from the FTO GP version R. I have driven a manual Ralliart Magna, a Magna with a Type RS (the RPW TT Magna) and my own Magna with the Type MZ. The Ralliart LSD is least aggressive to drive, the Type MZ the most aggressive.

velocity, how is the MZ to drive around daily? this is the one that i was looking at, (and prefer the clutch engagement rather than spring) but i guess, this one would increase tyre wear, aswell as being slightly tricky to park? and i'm guessing the 1.5 would be the best option for a FWD (especially flying thru the hills on cruises etc?)

Definitely go with 1.5-way for flying thru the hills on cruises etc.
The Type MZ will wear out faster than the Type RS due to its more aggressive engagement. I don't know what the life expectancy is, obviously varies a lot with driving style. Probably at least 100,000km anyway. When it loses it's effectiveness the LSD can be refurbished.
For daily driving I don't think tyre wear would be that significant (I wear out 90% of my tyres in other ways  ). It's not tricky to park with, it doesn't make the car any harder to park at all. The rocking is just an annoyance. People think you are hooning in the car park when you are actually driving slowly. It's one of those things you get used to, and don't notice after a while. And it doesn't happen on every single car park turn, and you can stop it completely by backing off on the throttle when it begins. I don't have any worries about daily driving with the MZ if you can get used to these side effects.
With either type Cusco LSD, also be prepared for this... don't release your grip on the steering wheel after making a turn etc. Keep a firm hold on it because when the LSD is engaged the steering wheel will pull to the centre much more quickly than an open diff, which comes as a bit of a shock at first. This is something you get used to, and can become an advantage on high speed windy roads.

ok thanks. i'll definately look into a 1.5 way RS (especially if it's going to last longer) and seems to be doing fine in RPW's TT.
i guess when it comes down to it, any Cusco LSD is going to have advantages over the standard open wheeler anyway!

no, me and a mate installed it ourselves (have a look in my manual conversion thread) you'd find it pretty damn hard to install it unless u have access to a press and know how to measure shims etc...
