from what i have been told from a mitsu mech, he said the 3.5ltrs are better on fuel, unless u have a heavy foot, then its the opposite

I'd agree with that, I've noticed each engine type I've had has been better than the last.

Ive just done 243km on the current tank of fuel and ive got my fuel consumption down to 9.8l/100km. 65km of that is highway. Never had it that low..Might have something to do with my speeding fine yesterday too...

Have I read that wrong or does that work out to a 27L tank?
Now there's a weight saving mod! lol

i used to get 450 to a tank in the te manual this was taking pretty easy and just giving it a squirt here and thier im hoping a 3.5 would be ova 500 with a bit of a squirt here and thier
but hypothetically extractors filter and exhuats would boost up the milage per tank if i did not give it the hurry curry most times ?

dan my 3.5 averages 12-11's and i generally get something around the 500km mark to a tank .....and thats alot of stop starting and giving it a bit
Got 8.7lt/100km from Fawkner to Torquay yesterday. Done about 400kms and the guage is at half a tank.

TJ 3.5L Exec with sports exhaust + K&N panel filter - 7-7.6L/100Klms on highway... not too shabby, with cruise set at 110K...
Around town, 9.8-10/100Klms.

the best ive gotten since going turbo is 12.5 / 100 @ 125+/-kph (that was caculated manually, no trip computer)
my trip to darwin on friday i hope it will go down to around 10-12/100 as the car has been refined tuning since last long trip. i hope to at least push around 550km from my 90L tank MIN!! haha

I've just bought a TF 3.0 auto, and am yet to work out an overall average, but on a full tank of regular unleaded with mostly suburban driving (no real highway stuff but no evil peak-hour stuff either), it got approx 470kms to 51 litres - 10.85L/100kms.
That's a bit better than the commodore used to get (around 12-13L/100kms, and it eats premium) with its analog efi, but it's soon to have improved economy with the delco efi conversion :)

just a quick question. Would a badly slipping clutch (ie, every time you from zero throttle to anything more than 1/4 throttle), affect fuel economy? Cos my fuel consumption has gone from about 10.5 average to 11.5 average

the 3.5 is better my 3.0ltrat 110klm/ph sits about 200rpm higher then the 3.5 so ofcoarse the 3.5 will get better fuel acconomyi can get from broadmedows Melb to liverpool in sydney on a tank and a bit in my 3.0 auto but the thing has done 310,000klms and the verada at 145,000 gets there in one tank....just and about the same from liverpool to the goldcoast.

just to update my fuel consumpson report -
drove from wycliffe to katherine (810km) one tank - used 81L - just just just under 10L/100km and that was at 120km/hour... (had a look at the tank, and all was left was a very small skim of fuel on the bottom of the tank - less then a litre at the very best lol )at 100/110 km/hour i may be able to push that extra few miles to around 820-850km
not bad for a 300kw street machine... (no detuning was done for my trip to darwin, still running 16-18psi, but while level driving, the boost guage was around vaccum 14 or so)

its going to be a nice welcome to see fuel consumption this low!!!
my best on the freeway was 9.5L per 100 and best in town was 14l per 100
worst was i think 200kays to a tank - track day will kill consumption! :D
i guess its a good time to get out of a 5.7L V8 with fuel prices these days! :D

I get on average like 12-14 per 100km? Is my oxygen sensor is bad?
I drive it pretty hard and mostly city driving, would this be right or is there a problem...
Since the cold air intake ive noticed an decrease in economy :S
Worst i've gotten was like ~230km from $40 of petrol when I went to the Drags with my pod not screwed on properly...

Are you folks calculating your #s from the servo receipts or just watching the trip computer?
My 3.5lt auto TL got from Melbourne to Adelaide on a tank two days ago, and thats with three passengers!
My old 3.0lt manual got from the outskirts of Melbourne to the out skirts of sydney on a tank!

My TJ Sports AWD is currently getting about 12-13L/100km - that's what is says on the trip computer anyway. I'm a bit sceptical about that though, because based on that I'm currently getting only 1L better than the old EF Falcon. Seems a bit strange to me. I realise that AWD's fuel economy is worse than FWD but really.... :doubt:
Nearly all of the driving done has been city type driving which may explain why (3.5L's are not very good in traffic are they?). Need to get out on the freeway for a blat to see what the economy is there. :)
Time to start going back to the manual system to get a better indication me thinks... ;)

I use the odometer reading and the actual amount of petrol put in, I have standard wheels which means my speedo is most likely 5k's optimistic at 100k as most cars are - I'll have to check the gearing on the dyno one time.

Surprisingly KJ's speedo works pretty accurately.
Had to go down to Geelong yesterday and knowing Geelong Rd's
popularity with the cameras, took along our handheld radar.
Cruise on with the speedo needle pinned right on top the 100 mark
(stock wheels, front tyres about 60% life), radar read 102-103km/h.
Fuel use at 100 off the trippy read 7-9L, about 0.5 less if A/C off.

the fuel gauge on my car is so bad
At 1/2 i can have done 300kms
at 1/4 its about 400kms
then empty or very close to it 450kms
this is like an exponential decrease.
Its rediculous, anybody else have this problem,
and can the fuel gauge / pump / sensore what ever it is be fixed or replaced ???

My AWD averaged 11.6 (by Tripo) when I bought it bog stock last year.
1) CAI and POD, dropped to 11.4
2) Zorst, dropped to 11.0 (torque picked up in spades thou)
3) Flowed TB dropped AGAIN to 10.6
4) Filled with 98RON on Sunday = 9.3 on my usual route to and from work!!!
I had no idea it would make THAT much difference. I was stunned just looking at the numbers when I filled out my log book. I even had a few blats on the way home in my usual spots. The air has been pretty cool lately too which aids optimisation of the 98RON.
I can live with that

I have a 3 manual and a 3.5 auto. So far the 3.0 was more efficient (before turbos). On a trip from Canberra --> Melbourne the 3.0 used just over 5 litres less fuel. This using cruise, completing the trip in about 8 hours in both cars (but almost 8 months apart though) and filling up at the same gas stations.
Of course if you were to take into account the losses associated with the automatic ... the 3.5 and 3.0 would probably be about the same.
The way I calculate fuel consumption is to fill the tank at the start, zero the trip computer. Then fill the tank at the end. The amount of fuel I put in the tank at the end is the fuel consumed for the reading on the trip computer.
